It rly is true what ppl say about ”just don’t stop” when it comes to publishing, but I also think there’s room for another perspective that’s equally true: Go where the energy is. Don’t just “keep going,” but consider when to slow down, take a left, or park by the curb for half an hour.

We're thrilled to announce that we've acquired PORTRAIT OF TWO WOMEN by @arfrederiksen.bsky.social 🖤 This is a Gothic horror debut set in Denmark, as an art restorer uncovers the ghosts of the past in a dual timeline mystery spanning a century. Autumn 2028 ✨
I should be saying something wild & amazing right now, and dig into my statistics for the decade(+) I've been at this, but no words can really capture this. Forever grateful for everybody who pushed me this far, and for those who saw what I wanted to do, and was trying to do, and always will do. ❤️
I JUST discovered a way of stylistically including an element in my story that I wanted to include from the very start, but considered too far-fetched, and so I discarded it. But now that I've drafted half of the book, I can see a way of including it---and THIS feeling is what writing is all about!🔥
I really need to get back into writing and submitting short stories more regularly again. I think I miss it, but it's hard to squeeze in among everything else these days.
About to finally hit 30k on what is probably the hardest thing I've written in some years now. I don't know what made that stretch from 20k to 30k so hard, especially when I already had an outline, but it turns out it's rather difficult to juggle 2 POVs with a 700 year interval in between. Yay. 🫠
Submissions close tomorrow! We’re looking for speculative fiction up to 5,000 words by immigrant and diaspora writers, as well as translations from any language into English. Submission guidelines can be found on our website. Share your work with us before the deadline!

My latest flex as a writer? I've managed to use "pigeon-livered" in two books where it makes total sense and doesn't feel out of place, and I think this needs to become my thing.
If you ask me, the best feedback and beta-ing is the kind that feels actionable. And giving truly actionable feedback is actually a lot harder than what a lot of people think. Imo, actionable feedback is the secret step up from constructive criticism.
Super excited and honored to have a short story in this one, among some truly amazing names! ✨

It's #folkhorrorweek and I'm also finishing edits on my Scottish folk horror book, ready for sub next month!! Really excited for this one, so thought I'd do a wee series sharing unhinged no context lines in prep...hope Editors are ready for weird folklore, strange insects and religious horrors 👁🤞🖤
I love working with braided narratives across dual timelines (and it has definitely become a thing of mine by now), but this also means double the historical research and double the outlining for one single book, and that was maybe not something I'd planned on. Not the smartest move, maybe.
Having read slush for multiple magazines for XYZ years by now, I think I’ve finally come to understand that once you move past a certain threshold of quality, you’re no longer making decisions based on quality. You’re more so making decisions based on memorability, which...
A very special call: Over our 20 (!) years we’ve published stories from all the continents of the world, except Antarctica. We want to remedy that. We’re looking for stories between 2000–6000 words from writers who are in, have recently been to, or have plans to visit Antarctica in the near future.
I promised myself I'd start lifting weights once Something Important Happened, and now I'm actually having a ton of fun doing deadlifts, and maybe I should've just started sooner. Tentatively doing some overhead presses as well, and it's just really fun, honestly. Better late than never!

It's now been roughly one year since I made a very difficult career (and emotional) choice that led me to my current agent, and I can safely say that this year? Well, this year has been a good one. Sometimes taking a step backwards can propel you forwards and beyond.

The more I write, the more I'm convinced that all writers end up as plantsers eventually. Flexibility is useful, what can I say? *shrugs*
Researching the historical difference between "chemist", "druggist" and "apothecary" for a future gothic romance project sure has sent me down an unexpected rabbit hole. Wow.
