My latest. I’ve been watching the media coverage of the murders of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer. One way media can fight back against male violence: If you kill your wife, you don’t get to be called a “husband” any more. You’re her killer. open.substack.com/pub/karenatt...

Arresting Black journalists is also vice signaling. Their base is racist and hates journalists and they want to get them excited again. The mainstream media industry has never protected Black journalists or journalists of color the way it should.

I keep thinking about how a young woman DoorDash driver was charged and hauled into court for recording and posting evidence of her customer sexually harassing her, while nothing is happening to the droves of men using Grok to sexually harass women and children. The institutions are pro-perpetrator.

Last year, we wrote about survivor Taylor Cadle. When she was 12, she told police she’d been raped. They said she was lying and charged her with false reporting. She then took the extraordinary measure of recording the next act of abuse. Now, Taylor has legal counsel and filed a lawsuit.

My latest reporting follows a brave young woman named Taylor Cadle. In 2016, as a 12-yr-old, she tried to report to the Polk County Sheriff’s Dept that her adoptive father had sexually abused her. A detective called her a liar and sought criminal charges.

I think there should generally be more grace given to journalists for errors, as some can come as a result of brain fog related to chronic illness etc. But, when it comes to mistakes that promote transphobia, racism etc, I feel like most publications underreact to that.

A judge ruled that Trump's deployment of National Guard troops in LA was illegal. As retired General Greg Smith told us back in June, politicians co-opting the military puts the roots of our democracy in "extreme danger."
