A new Vision Zero pilot project addresses turn conflicts at the intersection of Fort Myer Drive & Langston Blvd in Rosslyn following a fatal crash in April 2026. "People will be able to cross the street at all four crosswalks without vehicles attempting to turn through the crosswalk."

Photo of Info Flyer showing image of intersection: VISIONZERO ARLINGTON COUNTY Safety Pilot Project: Westbound Langston Blvd & Ft Myer Dr Description This pilot project will modify the signal phases at Westbound Langston Blvd & Fort Myer Dr to remove potentially conflicting turning movements from the west and south crosswalks. The changes will include the westbound Langston Blvd left-turn movement being controlled by a turn arrow signal. The intersection of Westbound Langston Blvd and Fort Myer Dr is located on Arlington's current High-Injury Network. The western crosswalk at this intersection connects multimodal traffic from both the Key Bridge and the Custis Trail to a two-way cycle track along Fort Myer Dr, providing a key regional multimodal connection. There is a PhotoRED red-light safety camera on southbound Fort Myer Dr at the intersection. Objectives The objective of the pilot is to reduce the potential for vehicle turning conflicts between people walking or biking across the west and south leg of the intersection. Once the pilot is installed, there will be no potentially conflicting signal phases at the intersection. Tracking and Monitoring Once installed, the County will monitor safety impacts and may make changes based upon site conditions. The County will evaluate driver and pedestrian interactions pre- and post-signal modifications, as well as queuing on Fort Myer Dr to the Key Bridge. The pilot will remove potential conflicts for the west and south crosswalks. People will be able to cross the street at all four crosswalks without vehicles attempting to turn through the crosswalk. Pilot Timeline Summer 2026: Install Pilot Fall 2026: Monitor Conditions & Collect Data Winter/Spring 2027: Next Steps Note: This pilot will require active monitoring. Conditions at the intersection may change, and the County may need to adjust and/or end the pilot based on site conditions. Langston Blvd is owned and maintained by the Virginia Dept. of Transportation (VDOT).

A fresh concrete sidewalk and replacement bus shelter at the 2425 Wilson Blvd site 🙌 The bus stop at Wilson Blvd & N Barton St (6000652) reopens today (7/27) and will serve the ART 41, 56, 77 + Metrobus A58 routes 🚏

A concrete sidewalk with a landscaping strip to the left with tree pits and streetlights. Location is along Wilson Blvd near the intersection with N Barton StA standard bus shelter with a bench and glass walls. There is a recycling and trash bin on either side.A notice next to the bus shelter stating that the stop will reopen 7/27.

This is now 13 months into what was originally scheduled to be an 8-month project by the property owner at 2425 Wilson Blvd. I have opened multiple tickets for MOT issues here during that time. Recently, the bike lane closure warning was removed despite the bike lane looking like this:

Support a Life-Changing Trail on George Mason Drive

One of the highest priorities that came out of Arlington's 2018 Bike Plan update was the need for more north-south connectivity, and George Mason Drive was identified as the best corridor for achieving that connectivity.  Out of that plan came the South George Mason Drive Multimodal Transportation Study, and out of that study came a fantastic project for building a trail along George Mason Drive from Arlington Boulevard to Columbia Pike.  This project is Phase 1 - future projects would continue the trail South along George Mason Drive to the County line! Arlington wants your feedback on the concept plan, and there is organized opposition (because parking, of course), so it's critically important that the County hears your support!  In addition to supporting the project, we have a few substantive comments on making the trail design safer and minimizing conflicts, so check out our suggested feedback below and weigh in now!
