The countdown is over! ⏰ #WeekWithoutDriving starts TOMORROW, so now's a good time to make your plan if you haven’t already. Review these four key steps, map out your trip, and get ready to travel by transit, bike, or on foot. Let's see where a week of driving less can take us. 🚇🚶🚲✨

Checklist: pick 1 trip to make car-free, plan your payment method, download the Metro Pulse app, practice your route

The Theodore Roosevelt Bridge path is now closed (9/15). A new, 10-foot wide path is expected to open in September 2027. The Key Bridge and Arlington Memorial Bridge are the official detour routes for bikes/peds. Project info: trbridge.ddot.dc.gov

Theodore Roosevelt Bridge Rehabilitation

The existing bridge is Structurally Deficient and Functionally Obsolete, this project is to extend the service life of the bridge and improve mobility for pedestrians/bicyclists.

Heads up: the highlighted crossings currently have a constant DON'T WALK signal. There are also no beg buttons here. Not sure how long it's been like this since I usually try to avoid this intersection but I reported it. 📍 Fairfax Dr, 10th St N, N Kirkwood Rd, & N Jackson St intersection

An overhead map image with two crossings highlighted in red circles. This is the intersection of Fairfax Dr, 10th St N, N Kirkwood Rd, & N Jackson St between Virginia Square and Clarendon. It provides an important bike and ped connection. An orange hand is all you will see on the pedestrian signal heads. An image with the crosswalk and pedestrian signals highlighted showing one of the locations where there is no WALK phase. They all are stuck with the solid Don't Walk hand lit up.Another crosswalk with the pedestrian signal head circled showing where there is no WALK phase.

It has been ~10 months since the Army Navy Drive Complete Street project was completed and the two-way cycle track still requires using a pedestrian beg button at S Fern St. Pedestrian recall should be enabled here so that a walk signal is automatically triggered every cycle.

A beg button for a two-way cycle track 🫠 The pedestrian signal, which cycle track users must follow, will not change to WALK without pressing the button next to the curb ramp on the sidewalk. I guess I got lucky other times riding through here. 📍 Army Navy Dr & S Fern St

A new Vision Zero pilot project addresses turn conflicts at the intersection of Fort Myer Drive & Langston Blvd in Rosslyn following a fatal crash in April 2026. "People will be able to cross the street at all four crosswalks without vehicles attempting to turn through the crosswalk."

VISIONZERO
ARLINGTON COUNTY
Safety Pilot Project: Westbound Langston Blvd & Ft Myer Dr
Description
This pilot project will modify the signal phases at Westbound Langston Blvd & Fort Myer Dr to remove potentially conflicting turning movements from the west and south crosswalks. The changes will include the westbound Langston Blvd left-turn movement being controlled by a turn arrow signal.
The intersection of Westbound Langston Blvd and Fort Myer Dr is located on Arlington's current High-Injury Network. The western crosswalk at this intersection connects multimodal traffic from both the Key Bridge and the Custis Trail to a two-way cycle track along Fort Myer Dr, providing a key regional multimodal connection. There is a PhotoRED red-light safety camera on southbound Fort Myer Dr at the intersection.
Objectives
The objective of the pilot is to reduce the potential for vehicle turning conflicts between people walking or biking across the west and south leg of the intersection.
Once the pilot is installed, there will be no potentially conflicting signal phases at the intersection.
Tracking and Monitoring
Once installed, the County will monitor safety impacts and may make changes based upon site conditions.
The County will evaluate driver and pedestrian interactions pre- and post-signal modifications, as well as queuing on Fort Myer Dr to the Key Bridge.
The pilot will remove potential conflicts for the west and south crosswalks.
People will be able to cross the street at all four crosswalks without vehicles attempting to turn through the crosswalk.
Pilot Timeline
Summer 2026: Install Pilot
Fall 2026:
Monitor Conditions & Collect Data
Winter/Spring 2027: Next Steps
Note: This pilot will require active monitoring. Conditions at the intersection may change, and the County may need to adjust and/or end the pilot based on site conditions. Langston Blvd is owned and maintained by the Virginia Dept. of Transportation (VDOT).

I've been thinking about this crash a lot recently so I wanted to share context about the area and advocate for change. My condolences to the victim, Leah Carlomusto. 💔 (1/7) 🧵
