3 years ago when canvassing Denny Way, I don’t think anyone really thought this was possible (even me). It was eye opening hearing so many bus riders assume that cars and traffic were always gonna be more important than their mobility. A year ago they were right but now we have a new mayor!
Seattle Department of Transportation@transportation.seattle.gov · 5d agoROUTE 8 and DENNY WAY: starting on Saturday, buses and cars merging onto Interstate 5 won’t compete for the same lane of Denny Way. To keep traffic flowing, people driving to I-5 south from eastbound Denny Way will turn right on Boren Ave and left on Howell St instead of using Yale Ave.
I like that SDOT is getting better at traffic circulation plans. This is an essential skill for building things like superblocks, home zones, low-traffic neighborhoods, and congestion pricing zones.

Seattle's critical comprehensive plan, a process that so far has taken 5 years, cost millions of dollars, hinges on whether every single person who has a spare $120 to file an appeal is satisfied that every potential, even marginal, impact is fully studied. The EIS was 3047 pages, but not adequate.

I also want to thank my colleagues for being bold and supporting the 10-year proposal to be funded at the maximum amount. A long term commitment to robust transit funding is a commitment to a more sustainable, safe, equitable and frankly more enjoyable city.
