More cops have been arrested for using flock cameras to stalk women than there are transgender athletes in youth sports.
Apparently, on Christian album covers in the ’60s, the only thing worse than the hair was the obliviousness to the lewd double entendres.
Today I discovered that a letter attributed to a man was actually written by Ann Bathurst, the 17th-century visionary woman I’m researching. 🤩 Archival work might be slow and painstaking but it’s totally thrilling to be going in search of lost voices from the past and finding them! 📚
Begging you, reporters everywhere: stop using this framing. Anyone anywhere at any time can have an underlying condition. That has only become more true as you decided to join the war on COVID on the side of COVID. People with fallible bodies—all of us—deserve to not shit themselves to death.
Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.
Can't think of a thing that will radicalize a generation faster than "you've gotta let that old man in the corner over there see what's inside those pants before you play Kindergarten volleyball."
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough
i personally don't think child molestetion should be required to play volleyball
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
As Rod Liddle has died, I notice this column I wrote in 2019 about his attacks on people with M.E. is on the most read again. Rebekah Brooks, of News UK, described Liddle today as “provocative”. In reality, he spread lies about very sick people for cash. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Rod Liddle vilifies disabled people. I’m tired of the hate. We all should be | Frances Ryan
Whether it is ME patients or another target, huge swathes of the media have normalised hatred of minorities for years, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

i think the party of sick freaks who want to inspect kid's private parts should be branded as such
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
For the small minded who think only two chromosomal genders exist (XX & XY):
My kid told me today that when she was younger she used to think that a brothel was a restaurant that only sold soup
Yet the most frustrating thing is that you're "technically employable". Your quality of life stinks and you struggle to make ends meet, but you can walk for 20 minutes so clearly, you don't need any help.
I don't think people quite understand chronic illness, what it's like to "wake up tired" but still have a million things to do. Deciding where to invest your energy as you're operating on 20% of what everyone else has. Even the most basic stuff like washing yourself or making a meal is draining.

That's 100% why I created leavesubstack.com -- got tired of re-hashing the points; wanted to make a simple 1-pager.
You Should Probably Leave Substack
You should probably leave Substack. Here’s why and how.

Of the confirmed VR and compulsory departures so far, I can say that we won’t have specialists in these areas any more: Medieval literature Drama Shakespeare and the Renaissance Victorian literature and culture Modernism Novel writing. Computational linguistics. What could possibly go wrong?
Definitely the case here. In two weeks we find which 9 of 12 in my group will be gone. The other 3 will then have a month to prepare and find hourly-paid replacements for all the classes across two degrees. And supervise 25 PhDs. Plus admin and pastoral care and research. Management doesn’t care.
If you're arriving at uni this autumn, or maybe dropping your kids, remember that there could be a ghostly phalanx of absent redundant staff, lost modules and degraded degrees making it a very unhappy place. It may *look* the same, but it won't *be* the same. www.ft.com/content/e5b0...
Another study on youth transition that find that about 97% of all youth who says they're trans turn out to be. Only 1.1% who start HRT stopped it for any reason whatsoever. This is, like, the fifth youth transition study that I'm aware of, and all of their results have been identical.
Canadian researchers found that 97 percent of youth who seek treatment for gender dysphoria still identify as trans years later.
it’s wild to see the infrastructure evaporating at the R1 level. Instead of internal research support, I get the knowledge that if I say no to service, I am saying no to participating in decision making AND getting to know decision makers who will decide my program’s viability down the line.
not unique to me! see also assoc profs waylaid by teaching and/or service. above all it’s interesting to think about parallel—though different—emphases on the “first book” with its assumption of a second and third and and and when there isn’t infrastructure to support that at scale.
The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.
In late 2023, the Society spent a day with Hertfordshire’s historians. We saw the quality, creativity and distinctiveness of teaching, research and engagement. We were told by a (now departed) senior manager that History was ‘a portfolio the university will guard very carefully’. bit.ly/4hLediN
So it's farewell to the History subject area at the University of Hertfordshire, not the first nor the last to go. One of the best departments in the country, just extinguished like a snap of the fingers. Think of the waste. (1/2)
Some great new reaction images to use when people are obtuse on BlueSky.
airbnb I’m staying at unintentionally created the toughest punk album cover of 2027
(I'm looking at you, my colleagues who cried bloody murder over the need to do online conferences and the loss of the "in person conference experience." Fuck you, too.)
