Memorial Park in Athens, GA : In 1924, tuberculosis caused officials to request a sanitarium. It was built for the county at a cost of $50,000 and opened in 1926. The hospital had 30 beds equally distributed between black and white patients and operated until the late 1930's.

Former Site of Fairhaven Tuberculosis Sanitarium Ву 1924, the spread of tuberculosis had reached epidemic levels in Athens, with 100 active cases and a death toll in excess of 160. This caused public health officials to request a sanitarium (hospital) to be built. The result was a Spanish-style sanitarium that was built for the county at a cost of $50,000 and opened in February 1926. The hospital had 30 beds equally distributed between black and white patients and operated until the late 1930's when the remaining patients were moved to Alto, Georgia. The facility closed for many years, and was reopened in 1945 as the Memorial Park Club House.

I went with some staff council friends to the UGA Museum of Art after work today. This is a Lamar Dodd of downtown Athens. I’m pretty sure this is the spot but I am just guessing.

Since this information has been hard to find, let me put it here so the internet will remember. The first Waffle House in Athens, GA was #33 on West Broad. It opened February 16, 1968 and closed April 16, 2000. Thanks to Caroline at Waffle House corporate for this valuable information.
