Since I have been reminded of it, allow me to share one of my very favorite threads of the past year:
This evening one of the very kind con organizers took us to the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo, which is amazing and you should go and Gustav Vigeland was extraordinarily talented and probably does not deserve the narrative I constructed looking at his work. But Bluesky! You deserve EVERYTHING!
Dear Friends, I have an exhibition of my artwork opening at Zolla/Lieberman Gallery in Chicago this Friday, September 5th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. It would be lovely to see you, please come!

Dear Friends, I am doing a birthday fundraiser over on FB for Artists Book House's building fund. We have a $50,000 matching grant this year! It's a 1:1 match, so your donation will be doubled. Thank you! www.facebook.com/donate/18867...

Last week @eddiecampbell.bsky.social and I went to Powell’s Books’ fantastic warehouse to pick up some copies of our Bizarre Romance. @kgerleve.bsky.social helped us (we were given 36 cases of books!) and we had a great visit. Thank you, Brad Jonas and @powellsbookschi.bsky.social !

Today I saw a high level of anger at the massive number of cops that are protecting a Tesla dealership in Chicago. Lots of chants demanding to know why they are protecting Nazis. No one is letting CPD off the hook. This is what cops do - enable and participate in fascism. #Teslatakedown.
I wrote about the very violent, very public detention of a woman for interrupting a speaker at the Kootenai County Republican’s town hall on Saturday. In Idaho, the lines between Republican politics and political violence are thinner than they are in some places; this is a terrifying escalation.
This Shocking Moment at a GOP Town Hall in Idaho Is a Foreboding Sign
Private, unidentified security personnel dragged a woman out of the event. It raises questions not just about tolerance for dissent, but also who gets deputized to do what.

Artists Book House wishes Edward Gorey a happy 100th birthday! Many of us here at ABH draw great inspiration from the weird, wonderful work of Edward Gorey, born here in Chicago on Feb. 22, 1925.
Trump is shutting down at midnight tonight the federal website for ordering free COVID tests (four per order). I just ordered four—can’t be easier. Last call. ------------------ covidtests.gov Please share I just ordered mine.

The Washpost, which is bleeding millions of dollars and shrinking its staff, accepted -- and then rejected -- a $115,000 ad that criticized Elon Musk. Anyway, here's the ad that the Post's business side didn't want its readers to see ⤵️ thehill.com/media/514849...
Since the Washington Post didn't want you to see the anti-Musk ad with your newspaper, please check out this website and share it around www.commoncause.org/work/fire-el...

Our democracy cannot be held hostage by billionaires. Let’s restore power to the people and demand accountability from our leaders.

Serendipity! Saw the current New Yorker cover with vintage Rea Irvin and wistfully thought he should be appreciated more. Opened mag and saw Seth's 4-page appreciation! A traveling 21 year old Irvin of San Francisco popped up in my book The Goat Getters, drawing sports page cartoons in Hawaii.

A quick resistance task: 1. Google Gulf of Mexico 2. “Gulf of America" is the top 3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it 4. Select "Send Feedback" 5. Click on "Gulf Of America" 6. Select "Inaccurate content" 7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"
Google the Gulf of Mexico. When incorrect search results appear, send Google your feedback! It's fun and only takes a few minutes. Just click on the three little dots and send them your thoughts.

“I think we need to persuade them that we are anti-fascist, the same way they persuaded us they are fascist.”
"The people who persuaded me that Republicans are fascist are Republicans. What this tells me is that actions are persuasive in ways words are not. I mention this because a lot of people seem to think that what is needed in this moment is persuasion." www.the-reframe.com/youve-persua...
As long as the world is in chaos anyway, let’s wipe blurbs off the face of the earth. I have been the recipient of other authors’ kindness (thank you all!) and I have tried to give help where I could, but blurbs are just advertising, and frequently ineffective.
the headline acts like this is a dramatic new thing but if you read the piece it is actually more like "we officially aren't going to require people to do something we already weren't officially requiring them to do" okay? cool?

Why Simon & Schuster’s Flagship Imprint Won’t Require Blurbs Anymore
In a decision some might call “stunning” or a “tour-de-force,” new S&S publisher Sean Manning has decided to no longer require authors to obtain blurbs for their books. Here’s why.

Crushing fascism is actually an anti-fascist act, and often requires being just as aggressive as fascists are in their pursuit of fascist ends in order to secure anti-fascist ends, which are not the same as fascist ends. Pass It On.
If a president "just as agressive" to crush fascism? Think that would have been fascism. Fascism is at least as much about the means as it is the end.
I wrote about the fascist party that's taking power, the deepest natural laws that they oppose, the ways that this opposition renders them fundamentally, illegitimate no matter what power they hold, and what that means for all of us. www.the-reframe.com/the-moon-is-...
The Moon Is Down
When an illegitimate party takes power, they remain illegitimate all the same.

A truly awful day for movies and art, losing one of the most singular and brilliant voices to ever make them. We've unlocked our full David Lynch issue from 2017, which is now entirely free to read. R.I.P. Mr. Lynch, and thank you forever for the work and example you left us.
