I know a lot of people in Michigan are maybe gonna feel a little sad or angry or resentful tonight. And I get it. I don't like seeing Skubal on the mound for the Dodgers either. We'll get through this. We don't have to watch if we don't want to.
This is the problem with populism: you cannot build a republic on a foundation of conspiracies. Corruption and special interests are real challenges, but reducing politics to “us” against “them” infantilizes the electorate and sows the seeds of authoritarian rule.

I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

I in no way want to make light of an ugly situation or say that it's a GOOD thing, but I am always glad when the outside world gets to see just what sort of lowlife degenerates make up the Ohio GOP.
I hope Molly is not being sarcastic and that she is right. She knows Dodgers, literally wrote the book, so I very much hope so. Because yeah it’s tough.

And that Congress as an institution has failed because the voters elected many many unserious people of low character. (The vast majority of them clustered in one party.)

After 20 years of legal practice while watching increase Republican lawlessness, my view is less abstract legal theorizing and more carving into a rock "if a proſecutour bringeth a cauſe without merit, then ſhall he ſerue the ſelfe-ſame ſentence which he ſought for the falſely accuſed."
Matthew Guariglia@mguariglia.bsky.social · 4d agoI worry that most cynical among us, hopped up on 30 years of law and order rhetoric, will say "this is the system working: he didn't do anything wrong and now he's free." As if the terror and wide-scale publicity of an arrest and federal prosecution is not a horrible punishment in and of itself.
This seems like a basic and unsexy thing to point out but HOO BOY is it ever one of those Cultural Warning Signs.
Haydon@haydonmp.bsky.social · 4d agoI HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A LONG TIME IT IS A REALLY BIG PROBLEM Public policy grad school programs don’t want to say this out loud but since at least 2016 the people that go into Republican politics *are not the ones that know math or think critically*. THEY CAN’T BE.
I know I'm a grump but I don't want to be at ANY show where I'm expected to provide part of the entertainment. I don't even like it when performers are like "okay left side of the room sing this part! Right side of the room sing THIS part." Like, screw you buddy you're not my dad. I paid for this.
it's kinda funny that data centers are basically a factory that can turn Silicon Valley tech money into man-coded blue collar work and public teacher salaries but everybody's too angry to take advantage of it

I rivet the word "absolutely" onto the little apologies that chatbots do when they misunderstand a prompt.
