And this is not the first time here. In 1956 the City of St Paul evicts the residents of Swede Hollow, a railroad shantytown on downtown's eastern edge. 1000's of immigrants from many backgrounds had lived in this place since 1850. The homes are then burned to the ground by the Fire Department.
Norm Charlatan@normcharlatan.bsky.social · 5h agoConvinced Kaoly Her is going ahead with this encampment sweep this morning despite almost everyone in the know telling her to delay because she thinks she’d otherwise appear politically weak. It’s awful of the mayor to put vulnerable people at greater risk just to try and save her political career.
Policymakers need to be internalizing the costs of inaction/delay via escalation much earlier in the life cycle of infrastructure development, imo.

You actually don't have to do the "well, you know, I disagree with MAHA but they're right that there are real problems with The System" thing. That's a concession you absolutely do not have to make.
Your vote is good, you know what else is valuable? Your time, your voice, your actions, your volunteering. I think folks would be better off devaluing their own vote-- just throw it in and keep it moving, you distinguish by doing more than vote, not by giving Your Precious Vote the royal polish.
tbf, bilking carmakers for a free road trip while ignoring your duties as a Republican DOT secretary (highway expansion, facilitating bike/ped casualties, dismantling Amtrak) probably balances out to Duffy being one of the less net-harmful members of the Trump cabinet

Very happy to see that despite the noise of opposition, the City of Winnipeg is staying committed to its laudable goal of transforming a city-owned parking lot in a central neighbourhood into high-quality, net-zero, affordable housing. I’m proud to have led the design team.

My unpopular take is the obsession with youth sports in our culture has done enormously more harm than good.
