On this Shark Awareness Day, it is once again my duty to remind you that sharks need to have at least 5 gill slits. Almost all the shark emojis are wrong. Check your shark toys and gear to see if they are anatomically correct. 😉

New social media, 4 years later, and time for an update of my shark emoji review! Twitter manages to be the WORST, twice this time. @whysharksmatter.bsky.social Please help me spread this again 🦈🦈🦈

A screenshot of various cartoon emoji sharks and a review of each. The review text will follow in thread.

Today! 3 PM EDT / Noon PDT! My June livestream! Be there! ...or don't, I don't actually have the power to compel you to attend, and wouldn't want an unwilling audience anyway. I'm not very good at marketing myself. There'll be music! People tend to like that.

If you're at a Pride parade this coming Sunday, then it won't be transphobic if you don't watch my livestream. There are too many things going on at once! In fact, if you're busy doing something nice for any LGBTQIA+ person, you get a pass! Otherwise, I'll see you on YouTube. 😁

The most dreaded thing at the Bee is the bell, which means it's probably not the best thing to turn into a pendant/keychain. However, it is what I made this year. I continue to be in awe at the spellers at the Bee. They are all so amazing. Congratulations to Shrey Parikh!

I have a plan and a pattern and I'm going to start work on it now. However, for reasons beyond my control, I'm missing the Finals—though it's being recorded and I'll watch after—so the finished product will (hopefully) be up later tonight/tomorrow morning! Good luck to all the remaining spellers!

I have no idea what to make this year. The one idea I have requires more planning and time. So, if you have any ideas for what you'd like to see me make related to bees or spelling/words, etc. then please let me know! If I make it, I'm happy to send you the finished product.

Next week is the Scripps National Spelling Bee! It's one of my favorite times of year and my absolute favorite sports event. I usually make something Bee-related the week of the event and tried to finish before the champion(s) were determined. Here's a thread of things I've made in the past.

A wholesome story for nerds: On Saturday, I was signing books at a local bookstore for Independent Bookstore Day. The store had a signing-palooza with new authors every hour; toward the end of my hour, a woman came up and asked what my book was about. "Dictionaries," I said, and she lit up. 1/n

The thing about being a Nerdfighter is sometimes you're in a meeting with someone from another company and they say "Hold on, I have to sneeze" and you have to stop yourself from saying, "Sneezing isn't normal, I never sneeze."
