It matters because we have e.g. health care and gun control because *people fought and worked for them*, and I want to continue that fight, our fight here, which is far from complete. Fundamentally borders are bullshit; also, the differences among policies enacted within borders are life and death.

In response, Palestinian academics in Gaza have called upon their colleagues around the world to resist scholasticide and help them rebuild their demolished universities. For over a year, a coalition of historians have been trying to do just that. At this conference, they have sought to have AHA membership, vote on resolutions, opposing scholasticide and Palestine and supporting academic freedom for all. But the current aha Council has refused to put them on the agenda of the business meeting. I ask you all to attend the business meeting this Saturday at 5:15 p.m. at the Hilton Chicago, Continental ABC to challenge this profoundly anti-democratic decision and demand to vote on the resolutions. The leadership of the AHA should not silence the Democratic will of its membership."

If CBC radio has watched the video why can they not describe the facts about how ICE murdered a woman? Instead they quote BOTH Trump and Kristi Noem’s description before saying the state reps “disagree” but they NEVER DESCRIBE THE FACTS. They relate Trump’s lie that she was weaponizing the car.

China’s shrinking oil footprint: How electric vehicle adoption is shaping China’s oil consumption

Between 2005 and 2024, China more than doubled its oil consumption, accounting for over half of the global increase in oil demand during that period. But in 2024 Chinese annual oil demand declined for the first time in twenty years. This column develops a dynamic model which suggests that the rapid adoption of electric vehicles in China has been a major driver of this trend. In 2024 alone, EV diffusion displaced about 0.43 million barrels per day of gasoline, and this figure could quadruple by 2040 with an accelerated transition.

Defeated by winter travel in Canada, again. This morning's cancelled flight automatically rebooked for January 10 (!!!). Waiting time at the call centre has now stretched (on third call) to 15 hours. Callback scheduled more than 12 hours ago. Alternate flight in the 1000s $$$. Think I'm done...
