Regular people are coalescing around Van Hollen for Majority Leader because they understand that Schumer cannot lead at this time. He won't push to end the Filibuster and that is CRITICAL for any sort of actual progress. He's also an Islamophobe of longstanding. He needs to step down.

While there were lots of great wins -- VA restoring voting rights to people with felony convictions -- there were also worrying changes to the criminal system that will increase mass incarceration and make it easier for ICE to deport people.

Lots of wins to celebrate but this is a really important one: SpaceX lost its bid to toss an NAACP lawsuit over one of its ultra-filthy and polluting fossil-fuelled data centres (this facility is powering half of Claude responses, btw) www.cnbc.com/2026/10/31/x...

SpaceX loses bid to toss NAACP lawsuit over Memphis data center air pollution

The Colossus data centers and a power plant that SpaceXAI is also building in Southaven, Mississippi, have faced community backlash for years.

Marco Rubio oversaw the “deals” and payoffs and pressure to get tens of thousands of people expelled to countries they’ve never been to, including thousands of Cubans living in Miami. He is at least as responsible as Stephen Miller — maybe moreso — for the ongoing third-country removal disaster.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly preparing to resign from Donald Trump’s cabinet to launch a bid for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. www.independent.co.uk/bulletin/new...

I don't love this framing. Science isn’t something that nerds do, it’s the foundation of the modern world. It’s why this app exists. It’s why the child mortality rate isn’t 50% anymore. It’s how we’re able to launch people to the moon. It’s how we’re able to grow food that feeds half the world.

‘Revenge of the nerds’: US midterms deliver a win for science – and a rebuke of Maha

The wins for Democrats come after years of cuts and upheaval to US health and science infrastructure

“The lawsuit is likely the first to claim that Google ‘hastily integrated’ A.I. features into company apps used on K-12 Chromebooks, Google-powered laptops provided to millions of children by U.S. school districts, while failing to notify their parents of the potential risks.”

Much has been written about prop 40 but I haven't seen a single post about how 42% of California voters said they wanted the Moms for Liberty endorsed woman whose goal was to DEFUND PUBLIC EDUCATION to be the next Superintendent of Public Education.

This doesn't make Newsom any more electable. It doesn't erase his record on harming trans kids and the unhoused or platforming Nazis. He should still not be anyone's presidential candidate. But it is the right thing to do and I'm glad he's doing it.

Prison Policy Initiative@prisonpolicy.org · 16h ago

This is massive for California, and other governors with clemency powers should absolutely do the same thing. The carceral system should not be allowed to use taxpayer dollars to put people to death. It's the cruelest and only irreversible punishment.

I want 1000 articles focused on people in the Rio Grande, the trans people elected to office, the Black people in the South who have been organizing for the past 2 decades, the young people in NYC who decided to overthrow the corrupt Cuomo etc al, the young people across the world fighting back, etc

It doesn't escape my notice that the massive Democratic breakthrough in the South (including Mississippi!) happened after Republicans engaged in a two year effort to take Jim Crow governance national.

We worked damn hard for this result. This comes from years of work setting the stage and spreading the transit gospel. I need people outside of Pierce to understand how BIG of a win this is. Incredible gratitude to the campaign team and to the people of Pierce County for investing in transit.

Transportation Choices Coalition@transpochoices.bsky.social · 2d ago

In Pierce County, in particular, this result was far from guaranteed. Prop 1 funds the first local transit investment since 2002. Measures that went to the ballot in 2011 and 2012 failed—the second by just 700 votes. As a result, Pierce Transit has had to cut service in recent years.

In early 2025, my dad warned me abt a secret Dem plot to “steal the presidency” by impeaching Trump & Vance in 2027. Then Minnesota happened & he started doing anti-ICE organizing at his church. The experience of this repressive regime & its consistently horrible policies brought us to this point.

i find it troubling the extent to which the progressive commentariat has settled on "this was an economy election." "this was about inflation." yes, people express extreme anger about the economy. but they are voting like trump just re-started the great depression. this should strike you as odd!

Opposition to data centers has been called “the most bipartisan issue since beer.” On Tuesday it was a salient issue in US midterm elections that flipped control of Congress and statehouses from Maine to Ohio to Texas and beyond. Jenna Ruddock of Free Press on what comes next.

Data Centers Were on the Ballot Across the US, and They Lost. What Comes Next?

Tuesday’s set the stage for a new Congress, and reshaped state legislatures and regulatory agencies across the country, writes Jenna Ruddock.

what i can't get over, looking at louisiana and mississippi and even alabama, is that the votes are *there*. it is absolutely possible with long term investment to make them competitive states
