This is an astounding loss for the US if it comes to fruition. One of the biggest strategic losses the US has ever endured—perhaps biggest?—and all from a war the US chose to start for no reason, illegally.

This would close off the path outside Iranian waters the US encouraged ships to use during the MOU, then started bombing again to keep open.
I used to work near one of Rod Liddle’s preferred lunchtime restaurants and would often catch him exiting as I was heading home. Once saw him “live life to the full” all down his front and over his shoes.
Rod Liddle - a wife-beating racist who spoke openly of his urge to shag children. Very much the epitome of modern far-right politics.
I do think fundamentally if your impulse a decade ago was "no, they're just racists" you would have had a better read, and practical response than anyone trying to understand "economic anxiety" and "hygiene factors."

I have now seen multiple people sharing this image, which as far as I'm concerned is indistinguishable from the antisemitic propaganda being distributed by far-right GoyimTV during the Biden administration, and I find both it and the people sharing it quite unimpressive—depressing, in fact.

Bill Oddie, what a lovely bloke. He wrote us a letter when we started making The Young Ones, wishing us the very best, and warning us against interference from higher up. He didn’t know anyone in the cast personally. It just came out of the blue. Lovely thing to do.
Just remembered that Bill Oddie was in Married With Children when the Bundys took a trip to Merrie Olde England.

Early Noughties, pre-Springwatch, Bill presented the annual short-lived @mojomagazine.bsky.social Pub Quiz. It was in a dark period of his life, battling depression, but he was great; funny, acerbic, steeped in weird rock lore. A short gig but his daughter Rosie later told us he loved doing it.
