It seems City of Edinburgh Council have realised paving over a drain isn’t the smartest idea.

Mostly stuff in and around Edinburgh with occasional forays into Scottish rugby.
An old photo (I’d say 1970s going by the cars) of the Police Box at the junction of Leith Walk and Albert Street. Screenshot from Facebook post by Spirit of Leithers. @caleydave.bsky.social

In case any Edinburgh social history people are interested: I have an MSc student looking at bath- and wash-house usage statistics, and he's turned up a Carnegie report from 1918 with these photos of the Simon Square wash-house.
There’s a photo of it in the workshop at Edinburgh Museums Collection Centre at Broughton Market. I saw it on a tour there (highly recommended).
#OTD in 2016 "RUST EXCITES ME" on a manhole cover in Edinburgh's Regent Road
SCENE: A man runs panicking from a murder scene. He knows he is the murderer's next victim. He runs to a phone box to call the police and leave the clue that will catch his killer. He flings open the door -

Edinburgh Oot and Aboot No idea where I am going on this daunder.. Entrance to North Bridge Arcade. With Lady Liberty above it?
The east side of North Bridge is open 😀 We went to the City Art Centre to see the “Study for North Bridge” film. It was a bit “arty” for me. I’d have preferred something a bit more straightforward about the history and restoration. It was at an art gallery though so I should have expected that.

So I asked a man in Edinburgh for directions to a street. He did not give me directions. He walked me there. Eleven minutes, in the wrong direction for him, and at the end he said "you're grand" and left before I could obtain his name. He gets nothing.
We need an Edinburgh Pub Wiki. What should the categories be? Pints under £6? Old man? Good choice of stout? Central? Good for groups?
I have a 1979 pub guide to get you started… (Note the attitude to sexual assault from the Edinburgh Uni Students Publication Board)
Couldn’t resist taking a few more photos of North Bridge - and the views from it.
🤑 Got a great biz idea! 🤑 Gonna pop a tarpaulin over the Balfour Street tram stop, add a bucket, and rent it out as an AirBnB... Who's in? @spurtle.bsky.social @edinburghminute.com #edFringe #accommodation #Leithlife #persevere
Budget cuts mean the new public toilet in Stockbridge is more public than originally intended.
You mean they were just people in suits? My childhood ruined.

A free magic walking tour!
Lots of people will be heading up to the Edinburgh Festivals, and so I thought that it would be fun to put together a free, self-guided, magical tour of the city.
