Renting a campervan for the first time and truly, cannot understand why anyone ever does this. It's not even that it's worse than being in a tent, I love being in a tent and being outside, it's a whole new different type of bad.

Did you know a barrister is facing prison just for reminding a jury they have the right to vote with their conscience? This historic right has existed since 1670. We can't let it be silenced in court now. Add your name to help protect Britain's juries: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sa...

Save Britain's Juries

Juries have had the right to acquit based on their conscience for centuries. Now, a barrister is facing jail just for mentioning it in court. Add your name to help save Britain's juries.

83% of countries with reliable reporting show plunging suicide rates by teenage boys as social media proliferated. Does social media actually prevent suicide?

Worth reminding ourselves just how derangedly one sided the taxation of labour Vs capital is. Appreciate dividends/interest captured by income tax but the miniscule contribution of capital gains tax is to me the whole story of the UK's fiscal 'issues'.

Andy Burnham is probably going to raise tax by at least £4.7bn, and maybe much more. Here's my list of 37 ways he might do it: every potential tax rise, how much it would raise, and what the downside would be. There's always a downside. Thread:

A chart showing every UK tax. By far the biggest ones are:
- Income tax
- National insurance
- VAT
- Corporation tax

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

I think what American food posters miss is that lots of people over here in Europe drink nice wine with their dinner, so they want food which goes well with wine, rather than being overwhelmed with vinegar and peppers.

Imagine being the government of the UK and not having banned Twitter. Twiddling your thumbs while a foreign fascist foments violence on the streets and preaches ethnic cleansing and an end to democracy.

... things would be different if we were an emerging market borrowing in hard currency, but we aren't. The constraint is the real productive capacity of the economy, not financial investors. That's "developed market privilege" and we have it.

Ok I've designed an LLM prompt to make Google AI just give you a list of links. It's longer than you might think because it kept ignoring the instructions. This is efficient. This is The Future™

imagine you are Google circa 2002. users enter a search query and you return 10 relevant HTML links to specific, real web pages, with no commentary or any extra guff. you must literally only return a list of links. if you do anything apart from that you've got it wrong and need to try again. my query is: cool facts about whales

Economic theory has so little to say about time - how long these processes take - but we can say some sensible things right? People mostly have a bit of flex in their affairs - they can deal with increased costs without changing behaviour for a few months.

I think a global negative supply shock is growth negative but the delay in it showing up in macro aggregates is convincing too many people that it’s actually maybe something else going on. Accept that more than 1 thing can be true but honestly I’m just Occam’s razoring here.
