It's Monday, back to using America's premier mass transportation system, fare-free school buses. Eventually, with dense infill and reduced driving, most kids could walk, bike, or ride transit to school like in countries with better transit systems. But for now, more taxes to pay for buses are good.

I've biked and driven this many times. I thought it would be a minor win. It is a HUGE win. Cars are going slower and staying in their lane. I'm guessing it cost under $5,000. Akron is saving drivers from car crashes, and it pays for itself by avoiding crashes. We asked for this for 17 months.

Vision Zero Akron announces another win for safe streets If you're in the media, and want to join the press release list, let me know! We do about one per quarter. More: visionzeroakron.org

just want to note that this church is fine but not amazing, celebs got interested in "saving it" but not interesting in paying for any maintenance and it's basically in "must go" state due to that and the very small group who worship there are who is trying to sell bc they can't maintain!!!!!!

The four-year fight to save an Upper West Side church may be on shaky ground after leading members of the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission suggestion may lead it to be razed and replaced by a 20-story residential building. See less

@ianwalker.bsky.social: "Tell me what you care about and I’ll tell you how the answer is less cars." Public transit is often the more complicated and time consuming mode choice because of where and how we allocate and fund mode choices!

There **is** clear evidence that speed cameras make roads safer. 4.7 miles per hour average reduction in speed. From 40 mph -> 35 that's 22% less energy. Energy follows a square law, cutting speed cuts energy drastically. Speed kills. This is literally scientifically true. Say it in the article.

Millions of drivers across the country are encountering speed cameras for the first time, or will soon. Some don't like it, but advocates say there's clear evidence that cameras make roads safer. n.pr/4gwT62D

I’ve been thinking that you should have to apply for a commercial licence or other compelling reason for pickup trucks specifically for a while now

"If you have followed the conversation about street safety lately, you would think the greatest threat to our community is a teenager on an e-bike. It isn’t. In 2023, drivers killed more than 1,100 pedestrians on California streets."

Car Drivers Crashed through the Storefronts, Not E-Bikers

If a motorized two-wheeler is too fast and too powerful to be a bicycle, it cannot be marketed or sold as one, says Senate Bill 1167, currently going through the California Legislature.

DOTs, traffic "engineers", everyone in government will approve any trip hazard for pedestrians, crash hazard for cyclists, obstruction for other mobility devices in their rights of way yet absolutely refuse to use concrete and steel that might scratch the paint of drivers who leave their lane

Want a new bike? Then take your old bike out at night, run it into these unreflective unmarked signs that were installed in the trail clearspace on the east span of the ABP bridge over the railroad, and sue DCR.

The Beacon Journal has an article up about a measles outbreak in Cleveland. 1. The Beacon correctly says "the best way to protect yourself against measles is to be vaccinated." 2. Measles spreads through the air. Wearing a #mask in public would help - but the Beacon says nothing. Again. #covid

Great news: Akron's Bus Rapid Transit program is continuing. Baby steps in the works: signal priority, "superstops", others? Bad news: They are doing a 14 month Locally Preferred Alternative study, long before any Buses get Rapid. This may be required to get Federal Transit Administration grants.

Happy primary day! We're officially launching Nondriver Action, a c4 that works at the intersections of transportation, housing & climate justice. Tomorrow, we'll send out questionnaires for our general election endorsements to all city and county council candidates on the ballot in WA ndaction.org

Nondriver Action fights for the rights of Washingtonians who can’t drive so that no one is left isolated and without a voice.

We work at the intersections of transportation, housing and climate justice to build communities and systems where everyone has the freedom to get to their school, work, healthcare, errands, and friends.

A third of Washington residents are nondrivers. Nondrivers are people with disabilities, people who can’t afford driving, people without valid driver’s licenses, children and youth, and people aging out of driving.

We care about transportation accessibility because it can make the difference between getting to do the things that connect us to our communities, like running errands, seeing a friend, or getting to an appointment — or being stuck at home and isolated. We need reliable and frequent transit in every community, accessible and safe sidewalks and crossings, and bike lanes and multi-use paths connected to every destination.

Stunning display of motornormativity here from the BBC. No, they are not "closing down streets" - if they were doing that they would be shut off from everyone. Rather, they are changing who is using the space. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
