Chilly morning, canal frozen over, but still plenty of cyclists using the Bearsway. Bike path photo taken at 8am. We’d have plenty more using it if it was finished and created a safe route to Kessington.

Bi-directional cycle lane next to a main road. Cycle lane is slightly icy, with a dozen bike tyre tracks. Cyclist seen riding in the lane. Sunrise and an icy canal, with picture taken from the tow-path.

Commenting as Govt launch a road safety strategy. Every death on our roads is unacceptable. We need a Vision Zero ethos: no deaths or serious injury. Change driving culture, reject speeding, use speed-limiting tech, strengthen sentences, end ‘accident’ language. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

“Cyclists Dismount use Pavement” OR… the contractors could put the roadwork signs on the road. There is also no sign to say when cyclists can use the cycle lane again. Or just do what every single cyclist is going to do and go around the signs.

Cyclists dismount use pavement sign on a b-directional cycle lane. Photo taken at night. Road works on the opposite side of the road.

Local campaign group Bearsden Safer Streets need our help. They are asking for local folk to contact their councillors to express support for piloting a 20mph limit across all streets in Bearsden - without exemptions. Please look here and help if you can. oursafestreets.substack.com/p/we-need-yo...

We need you to take action against proposed 20mph amendments

Amendments have been proposed to the 20mph trial that risk exempting key roads and collision blackspots. Here is an urgent action we need supporters to take.

Short section of Bearsway has been closed for a couple of days, for seemingly no reason at all. Combined with daft “cyclists dismount and use footway” signs.

If "...road safety is a priority" then why have @policescotland.bsky.social dropped plans to set up an online reporting portal & team for helmet & dash cam submission? And no, the DESC system they are proposing is not a proper portal. You'll still need a police visit. news.stv.tv/politics/roa...

Road traffic police officer numbers at lowest level in five years, Tories say

Full-time roles fell from 567.7 in 2019 to 518 at the end of June 2024.

I want to make a personal request to those of you who use a bike for transportation purposes to start taking more photos and posting them. You can do so much by showing even the most mundane errands with a bike to educate and inspire others. They're often more effective than words. 📸

Bearsway has been well gritted this morning and a decent number of people on bikes spotted! Did see a stupid MGIF overtake at Hillfoot, which would be avoided if the cycle lane was finished.

6 months on from Una’s death and nothing has changed in East Dunbartonshire to make it safer to walk & cycle. The council has a long list of quick (and less quick) wins from the active travel consultation carried out THREE YEARS AGO.
