The Right is trying to do what it did with 'education reform' in pre-collegiate education to higher ed: privatize everything, attack labor, turn the school into a profit center for industry

I suspect Alpha School leadership is already regretting their decision to force their students to use Twitter. New story from the SF Standard on what's happening in boot camp. sfstandard.com/2026/09/16/7...

Just realized that boro and kantha — the Japanese and Indian techniques for repairing cloth or creating new material from scraps by connecting them through a series of running stitches — looks a bit like the peeling bark on an aging tree.

Two bar charts showing record immigration arrests (49,750) and removals (33,990) in July 2026.

The charts show Trump admin data in red next to Biden admin data in gray, in which the Trump numbers are significantly higher.

I feel this. I’ve organized my life around thinking, writing, learning, teaching, and I’m very worried about the future. I comfort myself that my “job” as a human is to “witness the universe” and understand its beauty and that won’t change. But that doesn’t protect me from social disruption.
