But doctor, I replied, bursting into tears, I 𝘢𝘮 universally beloved bluesky personality Microplastics Sommelier Boston area coffee-milk advocate ⚓️ | Astro PhD 🔭 | he/him | Exact Same Politics As You Reskeets = Endorsing me as a person

RANDOM POSTER WHOSE OPINION I HAVE NO REASON TO TRUST: A result like this in NV-03 would be seismic. That’s deep Blortles country. It was Vinkum +8 in ‘24 ME DURING ELECTION SEASON: totally. i just need to look at 9000 more of these

i'm thirteenth in line for school pickup. but someone left a gap behind the fourth car. watch this, losers! i hit the grok gamma epsilon maneuver button on the tablet, suffering severe whiplash under 6Gs of force as i land perfectly in someone's yard across the street, crushing their peonies

it’s ok to find discourse over the ethics of the AI industry tedious. it’s fine to care more about technical questions. planting your flag after deliberating can be fine, to a degree. what’s 𝘯𝘰𝘵 fine is treating controversy or criticism of the industry as off-limits 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵.

This same dynamic plays out with politically-obtuse AI enthusiasts who can't process that the intense hostility to big tech Al is - entirely fairly or not - now inextricably linked to a virulent disdain for the tech industry's enthusiastic coddling of deadly authoritarianism (see how last season's commencement speakers left their establishment bubbles and were immediately shocked by being booed for lazy Al boosterism).
The most bullish AI boosters don't want to talk about politics. They don't want to think about authoritarian corruption. They want to play with their toys. They're quite often predominantly interested in money. When they wander into spaces where the tech industry's abysmal ethics are prominently disputed, they get squeamish and conclude the problem is somehow everybody else.

I wrote about how access journalists are slinking back to Twitter using some of the thinnest justifications imaginable

"The Superintendent arrives on time, despite faulty directions. His concerns over smoke in the kitchen are assuaged with assurances that it is actually steam, a product of the bivalve mollusk steaming process, but something has changed. He is not served clams, but hamburgers."
