Me Here To Do The Thinking #3 is live. It's "big macs for the whole band, Otto" as @ckunzelman.bsky.social and I continue to mostly disagree about Neil Young's whole discography. This time we hit the 88 - 08 canonization run. Listen here: www.patreon.com/SFULTRA/post... or the usual podcast places

am now slightly less than halfway through The End of Everything & cant recommend a first time readthrough of both more back to back for reasons i will understand later
finished Public Access Afterworld today & while i think Schoenbrun is a better writer for film than in prose i did 100% enjoy & have more thoughts about this novel than I have had about any of their films (Worlds Fair excepted). Its a fuckin good book.
"My opinion of God has never been lower," "Christopher Tolkien is Morgoth," and "Dragons are boats" are each, in their own way, the most each of our hosts have ever cooked
It's time for more Ancient Elf History on SHELVED BY GENRE, as we continue the Silmarillion and learn more about its bizarre process of editorial assembly: rangedtouch.com/2026/10/09/t...

okay one last time & i shut the hell up: i wrote about some cool films that no one likes for good reasons, earnestly & from the perspective of someone who genuinely loves them & has for at least a decade
From After Earth to The Haunting (1999), The Phantom of the Opera (Argento) to Thir13een Ghosts, I wrote short intros and then 400-1000 words about movies that I genuinely love and what about them speak to me. I'd be delighted if whoever you are, you took a peak beegabberel.itch.io/bees-movies
had no interest in the new Wilson book but did grab the advanced audiobook & its cool that its apparently a material history of translation. some things i immediately dont know about but having been mired in videogame discourse about translation it does feel a bit refreshing
Okay, Bee Day Came & Bee day went. My zine about 10 Movies Just For Bees is up properly in PDF on itch for free and on the master blog list here, where you can see sixteen years of art I've made to release on my birthday. thanks everyone uninterpretative.blogspot.com/2021/10/bees...

there's a print and fold version and a screen version, and lmao I just realized I put up the Doc files not PDFs but I am at the park where i celebrate so that'll maybe get fixed tomorrow. if yr in the Bay and want a physical copy, hmu.
In 2011 I started a tradition: every year on my birthday I would release some piece of art into the world. I somehow haven't missed a year since and, also surprisingly, have made a thing that might be my favorite of the lot so far: a zine that is about the movies I love that no one else does.
happy bee day nerds beegabberel.itch.io/bees-movies here's roughly 7,000 words about movies you hate or forgot that I adore

Tomorrow i will turn 38, which feels impossible but hey. I will also, for the sixteenth time, release a gift into the world (spoilers its a zine again). If you'd like, here is a link to the poems, albums, games, & more that I've made so far uninterpretative.blogspot.com/2021/10/bees...

there's a phrase cameron says at the end of this clip that risked breaking me and michael permanently. i could feel each of us trying to hold onto the railing for fear of spiraling away, off of the earth, forever

CMRN coining the phrases "9/11 Pride Eagle" and "bird finger" across less then ten minutes of the Highlander Bonusode on Shelved by Genre had me genuinely wheezing
spent basically all day confirming that my next birthday gift to the internet is going to be another nonfiction zine, which i think is the first time in 16 years its gonna be the exact same format? ive been doing this for too long
oh drake's posting 1.8m view videos about this. cant imagine why.
i genuinely love Miranda Lambert's music & dig a decent amount of post-Kacey Musgraves pop country and this is to me is a pretty decent version of that but like. when was it ever "i listen to anything but country" rather than "i listen to everything but rap and country"
it's nice that american pop culture isn't necessarily a global megaphone any more. for example, we were once all forced to know what a kid rock was, but are I think mostly (and thankfully) unaware of this cia plant white power anthem or whatever it is
This kind of take made a Rolling Stone writer so mad they wrote a whole piece about it.
This is correct and when I call songs like "Ordinary" and "Choosin Texas" slop this is more what I mean than any claim they were produced by AI in order for music to sit in the background it can't create any friction with settled expectations (settled expectations=one type of whiteness as property)
AI #slopaganda is not so much about fakes or disinformation. It's about aligning the world with your preformulated descriptions of it, making reality disappear behind its formulaic image, rendering visible all your fears at once in order to enjoy them more. It's a technology of fascist daydreaming

poking through the Miéville episode of Between the Covers and having a lot of ... thoughts. the discussion of his changing relationship to materialism did have me thinking about this thing i wrote almost fifteen years ago though thenewinquiry.com/mievilles-an...
Miéville's Anticlimaxes
Miéville is less interested in characters and plots than genre itself, which becomes the main character of his novels
