I like traffic filters on residential streets and I cannot lie.
Use of garage for storage is illegal in most California cities. Zoning codes require 1-family houses to have one off-street parking space under a roof. In practice this is enforced against builder but not against subsequent owners. ggwash.org/view/31340/s...

A new @pewresearch.org study finds that infill housing near jobs, stores, and transit costs governments ~$21,000 less per home to serve, cuts long term infrastructure maintenance costs in half, and generates 13% more in annual property tax revenue per acre than sprawl.
Infill housing requires around a third less in up-front infrastructure costs, and generate more property taxes than comparable greenfield development. As cities wrestle with budget shortfalls, they should allow more of this type of development. www.vox.com/future-perfe...

And now San Jose is upgrading the flex post protected cycleway on 4th Street to a fully curb protected bike lane with curb protected intersections! This is really first class bike infrastructure!
The Squamish people of what is now Vancouver were illegally dispossessed of their land 100 years ago. They sued, got the land back, and used their sovereignty to ignore local zoning and build 6,000 new homes over the loud objections of nearby wealthy NIMBYs. Now other tribes are getting in the game.
