I'm tired of the software I use getting jankier and jankier recently. It's been great at slowly getting me to use computers less, but it makes the times I do that much more painful.

I'm not sure how Mozilla focusing on security bug fixes is a tell of anything. It's great that Firefox is getting more secure, but this isn't mythos, this is dedicating the time to focus on these issues, LLMs have been decent at spotting those for a while now. But once again, gotta sell the hype.

What is the collective noun for people who work at Google? I propose 'an arrogance of Googlers'. Individually, they're lovely people — the ones I've met, anyway. But put them in a room together with some promo incentives and they become an absolute menace

I'm starting to see a lot more "Get on with the program or get out" when it comes to AI adoption at work. This is how you get workers to divest from their work. And honestly, this really stinks of snake-oil. I'm so tired. The church of emacs was a joke, stop making tools into objects of worship

After reading a lot of the Claude Code base that was leaked taught me two things 1. I have never been more reassured than I am now. Software Developers will be around for a long time. 2. Claude Code has a hidden command to hide that a contribution was made by a Claude employee

"AI is just another tool" No. Tools don't have logins, subscriptions, or silent updates that change how they function. You own tools. You control tools. AI is a *platform* until this is what coding with LLMs means (and if it becomes a tool we should remember that some tools require training to use)

like, the absolute minimum you would need to do to make ai generated code sustainable would be to transition to local open models. "everyone should use llms" is just absolutely not an acceptable option when it means "everyone should pay a small number of increasingly powerful and evil companies"

This is indicative of a mindset which essentially says "there can be no such thing as scholarship or intelligence when it comes from a group I've been conditioned to demonize" and we'd all be better off if we realized these people are simply like this. There's nothing to persuade here, it's bigotry.

Within seconds of creating a second account, after my first one was shut down just two days after it was created, my account was closed again. This happened despite the fact that I hadn’t posted anything or followed anyone. I was only in the process of adding a profile photo, yet I received an email claiming that my account was “spam” and that it was “causing harm.” What kind of logic is this? The painful truth is that the account was shut down the moment it became clear it was created from inside Gaza. It seems we are no longer allowed to write or speak about what is happening to us here. They are not afraid of content itself, but of our voices and the reality we carry with us. Millions are spent to silence these voices and to erase the truth. I am exhausted by this platform and by how our photos and videos, which document real suffering, are treated as “violations of community standards,” as if pain itself has become a crime. What is happening is not simple moderation or policy enforcement. It is an attempt to erase our existence and bury the truth. And honestly, this is shameful and unbearably painful. fwiw I don't think it is possible to build genAI in such a way that it benefits workers rather than capital because it is fundamentally based on non consensual extraction of labour to get going. what would it actually mean for the workers to own the means of production here

Because the lessons of the Holocaust is not that we "shouldn't do a Holocaust", it's that we should oppose the conditions that made the cruelty of the Holocaust possible at all: authoritarianism, laws of the strongest, scapegoating and oppression of minorities, normalizing apartheid & genocide, etc.
