Exciting news, I’m trapped on this disabled train!
🚆🟥 Northeast Corridor: M and E train #6324, the 9:42 AM arrival into PSNY, is up to 15 minutes late due to a disabled Amtrak train in one of the Hudson River Tunnels. An update to follow. More Info
There’s a bug in my apartment and somehow the two tiny murderers who live here with me have not managed to dispose of it.
Wishing harm upon the man scrolling TikTok on full volume next to me on the 4 train.
This is the third former child actress around my age to die in the last couple of years and ngl I’m feeling fucked up about it
Actress Hayden Panettiere has died, her representative confirms. She was 36 abcnews.com/US/hayden-pa...
It’s insane that this has even turned into a thing. I went to an extremely rigorous university that had covered grades for first semester freshmen and it was a lifesaver for a lot of people (including me)
this week I spoke to a family member and realized that the very good U of M decision to hide first-semester grades is already getting turned into a dumb culture war thing. this is an incredibly good decision that makes sense pedagogically. it gives them permission to learn when habits are forming.
If you read the article, it is actually "aggressive testing" because this time the board voted to etch “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump" (gag) onto the building, which does not entirely violate the court order but definitely opens up some legal arguments.
they’re defying a court order, not “aggressively testing” it like raptors did with the fences in ‘jurassic park’
This is 100% true and we should say it imo
I think Mamdani and AES show that you can get away from wacky 2020 shit by just shamelessly deleting tweets, flip flopping, etc. Doing so gets you one mildly negative cycle among politics nerds, trying to stick with it gets you Hong's Thanksgiving news cycle.
Maybe I’m just traumatized by the general mayoral election in NYC but I really do appreciate it when candidates immediately endorse their primary opponents, as Haley Stevens did last week and Francesca Hong does here.
You can pour the vaccine soda right into my baby if it keeps them from getting measles.
Trump: "At one year, you should have 5 separate visits for vaccines rather than getting them all in the same day. I've seen proof of where they have a vaccination thing that looks like the size of a bottle of soda and pour it into a little child's body."
Hm perhaps grieving is not an excuse for being racist
Twenty-five years after the mayor of New York City became the champion of America's grief and resilience at the time of the 9/11 attacks, families of those killed are split on whether the current mayor should attend the annual remembrance. https://cnn.it/4zkKYdc
this is cnn whitewashing and legitimizing blatant islamophobia against the mayor of new york and invoking his support for palestinian rights as an example of his "offenses" against the 9/11 victims' families

Making my sister watch The Notebook because I love schlock and pain.
The thing about burrito discourse is that broadly people under 40 have decided the economy does not provide the living standard they want, on everything from housing to gas to the price of going out. Whether or not this is an irrational belief is irrelevant, somebody has to successfully address it.
Because it was a truly insane period on every possible level.
Why do elder millennials (with no connection to the military) talk about GWOT like it was a world war level societal trauma?
Yikes. Women accounted for all of the job losses and all of the labor force decline in July, according to @nwlc.org
Politics requires that we put our beefs aside and embrace this. Magnanimous victory and gracious defeat, and then turning around to fuck up the real enemy together, heals a lot of wounds.
DEM UNITY: Haley Stevens just hugged Abdul El-Sayed at the Michigan Democratic Party’s Unity Breakfast in Southfield.
I cannot imagine doing this to any child, let alone your own.
NEW: Regarding the claims that Rep. Max Miller withheld his toddler's "blue bunny," I have some new screenshots suggesting there was a pattern of Miller not giving the bunny back. There were pleas from multiple people on multiple dates. (Thread: 1/8)
If AIPAC's commitment to arming a rogue state isn't enough for you, I cannot emphasize enough that this organization is just a slush fund for GOP donors to influence Dem races. Their donor base is mostly conservatives who want Republicans to win.
AIPAC: "Our members remain determined to ensure that voters reject Dr. El-Sayed and his radical anti-Israel agenda in November."
It's crazy that 50% of the country remembers the mass death and disruptions to their lives from Covid and 50% of the country thinks they lived through a holocaust because they couldn't dine in at an Applebee's for a month.
Washington Avenue was just sirens, sirens, sirens.
I remember the hospital camps in Central Park and the freezers of bodies I would run past on Park Avenue outside of the hospitals. If you didn't live in New York, I don't think you're aware of just how bad things could have gotten, or why the public health apparatus was considering drastic things.
i think the party of sick freaks who want to inspect kid's private parts should be branded as such
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
My parents are rewatching Downton Abbey for the 50th time and god forbid you speak out loud during a single episode.
Guy who has lost every election he's consulted on since a 3-way presidential race 34 years ago: Why is the party moving away from me???
Do you ever read a thing that you wrote many years ago and have no recollection of being the person who would have written it
Getting triggered over a comment on an Instagram video that showed no one offering a visibly pregnant woman a seat on the subway that accused all people who ride the NYC subway of being "too poor to have children"
Not really sure putting Ross Douthat on camera is going to juice those viewership numbers, but I’m not a News Genius like Bari Weiss.
Scoop: I’m told that Ross Douthat is exiting The NYT and is expected to take a role at “60 Minutes.” News expected to be announced soon.
