A few years back I met a current administrator from the music school I attended in the 80s and asked what it was like now; he said (excitedly!) "We are ALL IN on AI!" and was confused when my response was anger and confusion. Someone's paying $90K a year to have their kid NOT learn to make music?
This is why I get so annoyed with university admins who insist we must teach AI or our students will be left behind. Fine, then require one class and leave the rest of us alone. (After about two weeks in the class, they’ll be like, “shit, what do we do now?” but that’s not my problem.)

Good news: Just got all my knives back from being sharpened, and they are perfect. Bad news: Can't stop visualizing the first 2 minutes of "Un Chien Andalou."
Drove from Philly to Manhattan to hang out with Kiley and bring home some bins we had loaned for her recent move. The Whitney Biennial seemed especially interesting this year, including a surprising piece that namechecks my new neighborhood. https://bgporter.net/posts/insta/nyc-trip/

Bugs: "If my friend Rocky was inside this stove with the gas turned on, would I throw this lit match in there?" *boom* Officer Clancy: "Alright, rabbit, you've convinced me. I'll go and look for Rocky in the city..."
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"

At some point it will be less of a surprise to open the front door and see 30 folks on horseback riding down the street in front of the house. Not today, though. https://bgporter.net/posts/insta/cowboys/

What do we have to do to never see Alexi Lalas on TV again. I'm open to serious investment, like a couple % dock on my investments returns.
A quick word on Taco Bell: That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross. It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product! Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!
Back in college, I only remember having two conversations with the head of the jazz piano department. One was after a big band piece of mine had been played, and he looked at me and said “interesting. https://bgporter.net/posts/insta/deadmau5-fifa-fan-festival/

I did a tonne of research so you don't have to. I talk about masking, air filtration, and air quality rating systems, & I give concrete suggestions to help you keep yourself and your loved ones safe. If you don't have this information yet, it's time to get educated. Wildfires don't respect borders.
For folks struggling to figure out how to deal with wildfire smoke, I put together some information a few years ago: apihtawikosisan.com/2023/09/miti...
I've only lived in Philadelphia for a year or so but that's long enough to know that the correct and idiomatic answer is CALL IT CENTER CITY, DICKHEAD. No need to check this map.
Over the past week over 32,000 people, across over 2,000 cities have contributed to what they define as "downtown." NYC is clearly delineated by the East-West streets as northern borders. Chicago centres on the loop, but bleeds into the surrounding areas. London is bi-modal.
If we’d speak more ill of the dead, maybe it would remind the living not to be assholes.
Enjoying a walk almost back to New Jersey from our new adopted country of Philadelphia. I’m not sure whether that’s the real Ben Franklin or not. https://bgporter.net/posts/insta/bridge-anniversary-walk/

Obviously if you accelerate bismuth to relativistic speeds things like this will happen. Irving Berlin told us this 80 years ago in that song, "There's no bismuth like slow bismuth" I'll show myself out.
Special relativity can warp chemical bonds – now we've seen it happen www.newscientist.com/article/2533...

Watching the Philly July 4 concert from my cool basement instead of walking 15 minutes in the heat Jill Scott's band are fantastic.
I was in this prematurely air-conditioned supermarket and there were all these aisles and there were all these bathing caps that you could buy which had these kind of Fourth of July plumes
