Maybe getting older and having a bunch of lived experience and neural circuits is GOOD, actually. Imagine that.
I'm weirdly finding that as I get older, it's easier to learn new skills, which is the opposite of what I thought was supposed to happen. I don't think we're giving enough credit to a lifetime of built skills. When new skills have overlap w/existing ones it greases the wheels for the new.

When W.E.B. Du Bois delivered a first draft of Black Reconstruction––around 1,100 pages!––he lamented his effort read too much like a dissertation and not “a piece of literature.” I love this man. He understood that academic writing is storytelling, narrative, drama, comedy, and suspense, i.e., art.

It’s obviously by design that all science funding is tied up in military spending but it’s crazy how many scientists and engineers can be bribed into doing science for the worst people. All these employers have to do is tell them they’re so smart and special and they’ll get all the toys they want.
