Fountain pen enthusiasts, please send me all your recs, links, and tips! My fingers are inkstained. My soul is fixed. My heart is happy. I'd planned to head over to Atlas Stationers while in Chicago for ALA, but never made it. Tempted to preorder for Inkvent, but I'm brand new to this category.
There’s really no penalty for Islamophobia in media/political careers in the center, and massive incentives for it on the right
There’s an intense focus on other forms of discrimination throughout the English speaking world and no attention to no-holds-barred Islamophobia in right wing outlets, and casual Islamophobia in mainstream outlets
If you think Fox has ramped up the Islamophobic outrage over Abdul El-Sayed's victory, you really need to check out what Newsmax was doing last night. It's hard to put into words how racist this is, but also notice how the anchor lies and calls El-Sayed an "immigrant from another Muslim country."
for reasons that only make sense if you're insane, a TPUSA kid complaining about burrito costs on xitter has the GOP's biggest divas going for each other's throats.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened the Bonnet Carré Spillway twice for a total of 123 days. The spillway dumped over 1.35 trillion cubic feet of polluted freshwater into the Mississippi Sound. The Mississippi Sound may become "a dead sea" due to future spillway openings.

Advocates warn that the Mississippi Sound will be “a dead sea within a generation” without corrective action.

like, this sentiment is equally as bad as white nationalism. everyone sees that right? it’s just less popular rn
Humans are the most destructive and stupid thing to ever evolve. Any natural wonder, we’ll fuck it up. Any technology that has great potential for our better we figure how to kill each other with it. We deserve to extinct ourselves.
Really don't understand the end game of all the billionaires building their climate change apocalypse bunkers. You need society to function. You can't farm. You can't cook. You can't even clean. You think you won't be the first thing on the menu for all the underground servants?
it's a death cult, and if the only ones they were killing were themselves, that would be fine.

well, you can actually breathe the air in major cities these days. that's a plus, imo.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

LLMS are like, imagine you built a robot that could cook and you fed it a billion cheeseburgers and now it could make a cheeseburger 75% of the time you asked for one, and these guys are out here like “let’s replace all chefs with the cheeseburger robot.”

El-Sayed: "If all Mike Rogers got is that 'his name is Abdul, and my name is Mike,' you're gonna be surprised how many people are like, 'Yeah, but that's the Abdul who wants to bring down the price of my groceries and make sure I got healthcare. So yeah, I like Abdul over your Mike from Florida.'"
Many academics have to find the money to publish books from grants. This is a job on top of a job and they earn no royalties on anything.
Greetings, Psst, most academics aren't making much money from their book publications. They can't use their royalties. This means we are not popping our collars and purchasing prosecco or NA prosecco. The few scholars who are making bank are not publishing with university/academic presses.
Please roll back the word processors, spreadsheet, and graphic tools to their pre-monthly subscription fee versions.
…just have to return to doing work the way they did it in 2022 (not all jobs etc.). Though I wouldn't mind it if most word processors, spreadsheet, and graphics tools rolled back to their 2022 versions either…
Congratulations @abdulelsayed.bsky.social! Outspent 11 to 1, Abdul proved that people-powered campaigns can still beat big money. Michiganders chose hope over fear, and a future rooted in dignity, justice, and opportunity.
