Online shopping eliminated these gatekeepers and disintermediated the market, allowing consumers to express their desires more directly. And it turns out that what people really want is cheap disposable goods, not more expensive but higher quality stuff that lasts a long time.

the number of retailers that've switched to "track order" buttons in their emails that require a specific login in lieu of just including the plaintext carrier tracking number is genuinely upsetting. sorry home depot you're not cool enough to add to the password manager, now where are my lightbulbs
