It's doubly infuriating that the people doing this will largely live on the coast themselves. They know how dangerous the sea is and the excellent, selfless work the RNLI does. And they forget it all so they can behave like garbage at the instigation of the worst people in politics and the media.

Regular reminder that JG Ballard’s final novel, “Kingdom Come” (2006), is about a far-right English town which creates their own militarised breakaway state in a shopping mall, where they worship the gods of St George and consumerism. Old JG wrote it as tongue-in-cheek satire. At the time.
