I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?
George Lucas likens AI sceptics to luddites clinging to horses and carts
This promotional PSYCHO pre-release marketing photo (designed to satisfy demand and mislead from the film’s actual plot) always makes me smile.
this is actually a good reminder that you should delete the tracking nonsense off of any url that you share online. just delete everything after the ? (including the question mark) and share like you usually would
Heads up friends ‼️‼️‼️ Be SUPER SUPER careful sharing Youtube links They made a new update that anyone who clicks it starts "interacting" with you, and can expose your name if you use human info on Youtube/Google Settings -> privacy -> channel visibility for shared links
LRP, I know the X-Files has been making the rounds recently but folks need to remember that Fox Mulder is a fictional character and real FBI agents aren’t funny.
If someone from the FBI visits you about your algae posts the correct thing to do is to say you won’t talk with them. Please do not talk to the FBI. Like, at all. They have no sense of humor and they will take your stupid joke and charge you with lying to an agent.
So not only can we not fedpost but apparently we can no longer algae post
My brother @digimonkey.bsky.social and I may have discovered the Reflecting Pool culprit. @stephenrbissette.bsky.social, we may need a more expert witness for identification. 😂
Crunchyroll, Netflix, et al are enshittifying subtitles in an effort to make a worldwide standard, and the heroes Gkids are out here using yellow subs and left-justified cyan supertitles in the year 2026
A little while back a guy randomly tried opening with an icebreaker about going to a meta glasses release event. I blurted out “you mean the evil spy glasses?” PC Mag is manifesting here: the hate is strong. Long term buyers of *normal* Ray Bans are dropping them.
“Smart glasses are gaining traction because people no longer feel stupid wearing them” www.pcmag.com/news/smart-g...
The Situation with the reflecting pool makes me feel much better about my campaign against the Cyanobacteria outbreak in my aquarium! Things are returning to normal, and I didn’t lose any fish 😮💨
I finally found it: the best shop name ever.

Had to say goodbye to our cat of ten years. Why couldn’t something bad have left this world instead.
Everyone is (rightly) clowning on the Book of Life guy for getting in bed with the AI crowd, but there's a danger that the dopamine hit of outrage overwhelms good news. Like, I've seen dozens of posts about Gutierrez and only one or two about this. We need to be as loud about the good as the bad.
'Iron Boy' Wins Cannes Prize In Major Year For Animation
Animated features and shorts were omnipresent across the Croisette this year, but only two animated titles left Cannes with awards recognition.

Past: 80’s Waring electric waffle iron, stamped a perfect deep grid for maximum syrup storage! After many, many wonderful breakfasts from childhood through to my late 20’s it started shedding Teflon and had to be thrown out 😢 Current: Palomino Blackwing Matte Pencil. My traditional art staple!
Bored of talking about AI. What’s your favorite piece of low tech? Mine is my Breville sandwich press. No buttons, just plug in and unplug. Great for paninis but also reheating pizza & french fries, cooking chicken cutlets, what have you. Wipe clean with a paper towel and store.
We started rewatching the X-files a couple weeks back (spouse never watched it all the way through, just started season 2) and I am super pleased at the coincidence of quality X-files stuff trickling into my feed at the same time.

I launched an indie webcomic hosting platform several months ago that offered a free and a $4/mo paid plan. This was purely to cover the cost of the infrastructure. But in seeing it grow, I'm no longer worried about the cost. So yeah Webcomic Studio is now free. webcomic.studio
People don't say things "whip the llama's ass" anymore and it's a damn shame
cop in The Wicker Man (leaving unharmed because he slept with that hot blonde): what a strange, sexy island
It feels like a dark cloud is spreading over people close to us lately. Friends miserable/sick, neighbor ended up in the hospital (no insurance) and my dad checks zero risk factor boxes for his situation.
My dad’s in the hospital. I doubt he’ll ask, but I’m putting aside a few books in case he wants something to read.
