For seven years, I've had the privilege of reporting on accessibility and the disabled perspective. And now, during my seventh Disability Pride Month in this industry, I'm left wondering if this beat is coming to an end. The vanishing art of disability reporting

As the games industry contracts, disability reporting is facing an extinction-level crisis.

EVERY facet of accessibility is affected. From the complete removal of all funding of Microsoft's Gaming Accessibility Testing Services, to a question of general website accessibility, a legal requirement for institutions like the EU, it's not just games where disabled individuals may be impacted.

It’s not a question of whether each remaining development team cares about accessibility, but rather if they still have the resources to properly implement each feature and design. The former employee explained that games releasing within the next year are relatively finished in terms of accessibility testing and feature roadmaps, but there’s no certainty what the future of Xbox accessibility looks like beyond 2027. This is in large part due to cuts not only affecting the internal full-time Xbox accessibility team and individual studios’ employees, but also contractors who provided critical services like accessibility testing. They said that without a centralized accessibility support network, the “standards and prioritization frameworks that helped save teams time and energy” no longer exist.

With layoffs at Xbox, sources indicate accessibility efforts have also been affected. What was once a champion of accessibility is now a shell of its former self, unsure if accessibility even has a place at the new Xbox. Read my first report for @aftermath.site here: aftermath.site/xbox-layoffs...

Layoffs Leave The Future Of Xbox’s Award-Winning Accessibility Efforts In Doubt

Former workers say Xbox cuts leave less resources and experts to make sure games are developed, labelled, and tested with accessibility in mind

Let my story today be a reminder of the necessity for disability and accessibility reporting. There is a potential for millions to be impacted by the effects of what I reported. There needs to be trained journalists to cover these topics

Today is a new day, but we are still feeling the sadness and disbelief after yesterday's layoffs. Supporting those affected by them is the most important thing now. They have been working hard for many years, and this is not what they deserve at all.

Ubisoft published an Accessibility Spotlight for the game Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains. There are many great features. I love the control customization, no holds, no QTEs, one hand controls and no camera shakes/sways. What feature do you like? news.ubisoft.com/en-gb/articl...

If you truly enjoy games, never share or interact with posts and creators who share leaked content or information. They disrespect and hurt the developers' work and our expectations as players. Those people only care about their own benefit. Zero engagement to them! #gaming

Every year I say "this is packed!" fully meaning it. But seriously, for my personal interests and needs, this year's edition covers exactly what I hoped and more. Hyped doesn't begin to describe it.
