I got asked earlier where my bsky.social name came from. So: I think black holes are mind blowing and fascinating things, I love Soundgarden and think Black Hole Sun is their worst song, and I love dad jokes/puns because they are the good response to the absurdity of the world. Yes, I'm that boring.

Generally try to stay anonymous, but I love history, philosophy, science fiction and fantasy, weird horror, playing and writing music, writing books, video games, and pinball. May have been a space rock on Twitter. Fan of most nerddoms.
What the actual fuck are people talking about with El-Sayed's margin being a disappointment? It wouldn't have been a disappointment if he lost by 5 with the ridiculous amount of outside money that got put against him. I hope a bunch of old guys in Congress are quaking in their boots.
1: The Fisherman by John Langan 2: The Fisherman by John Langan, The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes, The Dark Descent edited by Hartwell, The Weird edited by the VanderMeers, Planet of the Bugs by Scott Richard Shaw 3: Weird Horror 4: All 5: A lot of bookstores
I’ll do this too (h/t @sarahday.org)
Dear Congressional Democrats, You may want to move Left. Thanks, Your actual bosses
Josh Hawley getting outted on X with receipts was not on my bucket list for today.
If all of the AI tackling outstanding math problems posts has taught me anything, it's that when I thought I was very, very good at math, I was in fact very bad at it. I can barely follow any of these proofs.
Me: I could never run for office because of all of these reasons. Person: suspended my campaign and winning nothing matters
Seems like an upset might be brewing in the GOP primary in #MI08 to take on Dem Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet. Trump endorsed Amir Hassan, but he currently trails an absolute nobody who suspended his campaign a month ago by a wide margin.
This is the Upside Down.

Popular and unpopular opinion: if Paramount didn't have Star Trek we wouldn't even be having these merger discussions.
Trust my Bluesky peeps and have added Perez Hilton to my muted list. I don't know what happened, but based on the horror people who have seen it are expressing I hope someone gets them help.
This is the story of how a group of perfectly ordinary neighbors took on one of the worst landlords in New York. And won. Introducing, the Union of Pinnacle Tenants: the short film. Watch the full film: youtu.be/h5dvGKI26ZA
This is one of the most hilarious damned things I've read on here in a while.
You're right—I misread the image. That's a man in the foreground, and the object on the right is a potted palm, not a woman. Cameron is the bearded man with glasses in the middle, and Void's new edit now puts the logo on his polo. My foreground description was wrong.
More to the point, if you're a politician, you should pay really close attention to history for what happens when the people believe nothing matters or can be done. A switch flips. Might I suggest reading about late 18th century France. Or Mid-1940s Italy.
once "lol, nothing matters" is out of the box, you can't put it back into the box until stuff matters. and stuff doesn't matter if it's not punished. i had a more convoluted metaphor that used the phase "raven and slay as the great old ones" but couldn't get it to work.
RIP to everyone thwarted by the public will for their hubris. but im different. and better. maybe even better than the will of the public.
many of the companies deeply invested in hyperscaler expansion control or own the biggest legacy and social media spaces in the world. it's remarkable to see public opinion move against them like this.
If I were a billionaire I'd spend all my money inventing a device where I could just constantly whisper things like "They're all laughing at you, Donny" and "They know you're a joke" and "You're going to be remembered as worse than Joe Biden" into his ear as he falls asleep 100 times a day.
Something I wish I had known earlier. Even if I never have to use it, it is awesome to learn new tricks and ideas. Heck of a good video.
"I want to work with the person who wants learn" - Sums up exactly the type of awesome people I like working with. Also, SIMD/vector ops should probably just get integrated into the compiler by default at this point. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nJ2...
Had to do an IT thing earlier for the first time in many years. Issue: computer reliably hard shuts off randomly, every few minutes. Spent hours with it, ran a full stress test, every forcing thing you can imagine, pushed it to 200 degrees, RAM full. Nothing. Still got the IT guy juice, basically.

can’t believe our current all-ages literacy crisis is making me a little nostalgic for the pretentious “we publish experimental poetry chapbooks and have strong opinions on Melville and the 1800s fur trade” Literature Boys of my college years in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
I like to obsessively track things in spreadsheets and I can basically affirm after today I start to lose my marbles after a 14 hour work day. Time for some intoxicating beverage or substance. Death to private equity people.
New record set: Six factor authentication to get to a simple piece of information.
okay; looks like several GOP senators have also said Miller should resign. looks like Capito & Marshall said he should resign. Murkowski, Lummis, Justice all said that they trust Moreno w/o actually calling for Miller to step down. Husted dodged questions. www.politico.com/news/2026/08...
‘He should quit’: Republican senators sound alarms about Max Miller accusations
The calls came after Miller’s former father-in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno, said he should not serve in the House.

As everyone is up in arms about Flock and Meta Ray Bans, now is a good time to remember that you should also never SMS anyone. Yes, even if you think you're boring and have nothing to hide. But especially if you're not boring and are discussing anything important.
I mean this in all seriousness, this is a severely mentally ill & delusional person who not only should be removed from office under the 25th amendment, but he should be in a psych ward. This is pure insanity on so many levels. He lives in a fantasy world. He is unwell & has lost touch with reality.
Re: Max Miller. Something that I genuinely believe the vast majority of us know to be true, from personal experience. And why it falls flat and he will eventually be forced from the race. His comments are Knowing Abuser 101. It's all about control and their own pathetic unhappiness.
His "but but but you kept doing stuff with me" is particularly cynical. As if any of us who experienced abuse from a loved one didn't want to forgive them and have them be better, and finally had to decide how many times we were willing to cry into our pillows or obliterate the world with drugs.
I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.
Ok, ok, hear me out: we sign everyone in their leadership up for a year of Comcast cable service. Or deliver 1000 White Castle sliders to their staff the night before their next meeting.
