This is so stupid. I serve as a standing member on an NIH study section. Changing the number of grants discussed does essentially nothing to change the review workload. I still have to review the same number of grants. Discussing 28 grants instead of 41 grants makes absolutely no difference.

Maybe now is a good time to discuss how MSG, monosodium glutamate, is actually partly responsible for the proliferation of the upscale taste we call "umami," and that anti-MSG pearl-clutching, none of whose health effects are borne out by scientific study, is really just weird anti-Asian sentiment.

My hot take on this is that I think it's fine and in general probably a good idea.

It's unreasonably burdensome for all, even more so for those getting children ready for/to school. If the goal is inclusion, 5am is not it
