Ray Harryhausen didn't film his actors doing a choreographed fight with thin air and then use backscreen projection and double exposure to add an army of skeletons interacting with identical miniatures of the set and props just so you could tell me that AI is "inevitable." bsky.app/profile/ani-...

Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts are amazing even now. He animated the sequence by himself for more than four months -- without computers or even an easy way to check his work. We're looking into how he did it: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/how-ray-ha...

I never wanted to be a "in my day things were better" old lady... but I need to categorically state that technology actually WAS better. You are currently in the peak of designed obsolence, enshittification, personal intrusion and forced acceptance by lack of choice. Sure, the underlying tech...

This is not a drill! An English patch for the original Super Famicom version of Kamaitachi no Yoru has just been released! This was created by ButThouMust, who previously published one of two English patches for Otogirisou several years ago. Patch in the link below: github.com/ButThouMust/...

It's officially the last day of summer break, tomorrow a new school year starts and I go back to work Love that I'm tired and emotionally battered in a completely different way than I was at the beginning of the summer

It took me a while, but I finally finished David Kalat's book on the Godzilla series I appreciate the bit of insight into the actual production of the various films until Final Wars, as well as giving background to each entry in terms of where the market and cultural trends were at the time

A photo of David Kalat's book, "A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series" specifically the 2nd edition

it might seem like my mood swings back and forth wildly from day to day, but it's because this time of the year goes by so slow for me that every day feels like a week i manage to wake up every day and have a full build-up/meltdown and then undo that which i guess means i have crazy mood swings

ok i think i need to just hide away from social media, being online, or just the world in general cause every day for the last week i wake up and i feel like i'm just constantly drowning the world is trying to kill me stay safe everyone

*mom and I doomering in real life and I can't escape it* It's funny, this is ultimately my fault. I've been cynical for years and now my mom just as cynical, if not more, than me and it's now making my evenings a wide awake nightmare.
