So, uhhhh... KSM Anime over in Germany announced over the weekend that it had licensed the first three seasons of Slayers, among other titles. I think this is the first license for something known to be an Enoki Films title since 2022, when Discotek suddenly had to stop printing its Enoki releases.

There is a folkloric element to this 'News', though. We are told the farmer had been so outraged at the price asked by a farm worker to mow the field that he swore he'd rather pay the Devil to do it. So, a cautionary tale. It also shows the impact of the scarcity of labour after the Civil War.

"Pronouns used to be a funny joke, Hank. Until the government tried to tell me I couldn't use them anymore. So now I'm adamant about making sure trans people are gendered right. Not for their sake. But because I'll be damned if the US government is going to tell me what words I can and can't use."

Douglas Fairbanks clears a table as he duels Noah Beery in THE MARK OF ZORRO (1920), his first full-costume swashbuckler. Doug's brother, Robert, acted as a stunt coordinator and propmaster, lowering the table slightly to make the leap look even more impressive.

I love that major publications are publicizing the increased desire to own physical media but it’s also increasingly evident that many of the people writing the pieces are not collectors and have not been utilizing physical media for long. I’m sure some of them could consult experts or do research.

More often than not, these articles fail to even mention that a Blu-ray player, or UHD player, also plays DVDs. Instead, people (young and old alike) are buying DVD players for ~$50 and then finding out that it doesn’t play every type of disc on the market and especially not many new releases

Can we collectively stop referring to all of the disc formats as “dvd”? Blu-ray has been around for two decades now, it’s the default format. UHD the even better format. The landscape for physical media is consistently confusing for newcomers and using outdated formats globally isn’t helping.

My Favorite Streaming Service Is a DVD Player and My Library Card

A small, affordable DVD player can be an easy way to make use of once-beloved discs sitting around your apartment.
