Half of The Oddyssey is like: Eurylochus/Odysseus: This looks like a chill place to get provisions. Narrator: It was not a chill place to get provisions.
correct. the conservative movement is opposed, wholesale, to the concept of learning and science
1. The new Trump / Kratsios plan for US science appears explicitly designed to destroy US universities. Diverting money to tech donors is probably just a bonus. Gift link.
the reason we dont have medicare for all is bc corporations need employer based healthcare to keep you chained to your desk in a job you hate that doesnt pay you what youre worth
About 24% of U.S. employees stay in unwanted jobs just for health insurance, a report out Wednesday finds. Up significantly since 2021, the uptick in "job lock" is a concerning sign for the U.S. economy. n.pr/4gQIY5E
NEW from me in @thedispatchmedia.bsky.social. Congress spent two decades designing a web of budget laws & rules to constrain budget deficits - and then quietly & systematically destroyed every one of them so that it could turn surpluses into $1.8 trillion deficits. 🧵 thedispatch.com/article/new-...
Why the Budget Process Is Broken
Congress wrote the rules to restrain itself. Then it broke every one.

it does actually sound like taylor farms and the white house teamed up to try and blame taco bell for the outbreak. unprecedented corruption
NEW: As cyclosporiasis cases jumped, the company linked to the outbreak - Taylor Farms - effectively delayed a recall that mounted in consumer confusion. Gift link for @business www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Just going to say here, I think I've said this before, a 'historically accurate' version of the Odyssey is not possible because the Odyssey does not take place in a historical setting - it takes place in a fantastical pastiche of four centuries, mixed in with gods and monsters.
JUST IN: Elon Musk says Grok will make a "full-length movie" of The Odyssey that is "historically accurate" by the end of this year.
Let me get this straight. Hegseth is asking for $1.5 trillion to fight a war that was started for no reason to reopen a strait that was open before they started the war but we don’t have money to forgive student loans, for universal healthcare or even free f*cking school lunches?

In which I yell at my favorite journal and its thoughtful, talented collection of researchers that we really need to take fossil phase-out seriously as a line of inquiry, and that we would not stand for the level of talking around it as a solution in other settings with very obvious problems:

1/ Trump signed 50% tariffs on Canada today under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. Worth walking through the legal mechanics, the USMCA leverage play behind it, and what it costs.
And it was wonderful. It was wonderful. All this reboot culture and no one is picking up from that series' cliffhanger ending, SMH.
People yearn for a time of abundance but we once had so many duck themed cartoons that we even had a character study on a duck who is a father & a widower but his wife’s twin sister lives with him & hates him and he routinely fails his teenagers oh and also he is a P.I. but that’s almost irrelevant
Again their position now is that schools are doing secret illegal affirmative action as evidenced by…the presence of Black people…it’s just racism.
The Supreme Court didn't "end" affirmative action. It declared it illegal in college admissions in 2023. Things do not magically "end" when they are made illegal. Theft has been illegal for millennia, but it happens all the time. So does racial discrimination in admissions.

Pete Hegseth: "We need our warriors to embrace the Spartan mindset" U.S. Military: *suffers crushing defeat to the Persians*
i’ve been in restaurant and farm management and knew enough to know that “taco bell lettuce” meant some big producer’s lettuce. so when ppl were also saying the grocery store deli and mcdonald’s & other big chains i knew it had to be taylor farms. but most ppl wouldn’t, they have no reason to know
Re: cyclospora, Taco Bell having ethics and going "you know what, it's always the fucking lettuce, why don't we just pull that until we know what's going on" resulting in all the outlets going "LETTUCE SOLD AT TACO BELL LINKED TO EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA" is a fantastic way to discourage ethics in future.
The documents that Trump released and endorsed clearly validate and detail a massive Russian intelligence service operation to elect Donald Trump of which he and his entourage were aware and in which they knowingly participated. Russiagate is real, we learn.
They aren't just "enforcing the laws." It's very tiring to keep saying this but there is no law requiring racial profiling and random vehicle stops. That law doesn't exist.
The White House is both saying that deadly vehicle stops must continue, while also saying they are unnecessary to make arrests. So what's the real motivation for continuing them? www.ms.now/opinion/ice-...

My god. The Heritage Foundation, which mercilessly attacked transgender kids in order to protect the "integrity of women's sports," is now attacking the legal basis for women's sports. The transgender student decision is barely 2 weeks old.
