the actual success of the 'friendslop' genre i think at least partly comes down to just emulating the feeling of loading up a weird surrealist mod of half-life in 2001 and joining a random server for a few evenings and then never playing it again. the genre is just like... y2k internet mod scene.

Game failure? Layoffs Game success? Layoffs Game delayed? Layoffs Game delivered? Layoffs Game announced? Layoffs Game unannounced? Layoffs Game good? Layoffs Game bad? Layoffs Game AI? Layoffs Game no-AI? Layoffs Game hated? Layoffs Game beloved? Layoffs Money cares more for layoffs than games.

What I have frequently heard programmers say over the years: (1996) "Lines of Code" is a terrible metric (2006) "Lines of Code" is a terrible metric (2016) "Lines of Code added" is a terrible metric (2026) I have to use AI because it's the only way to meet my company's "Lines of Code added" quota

It's been a while since I do a semi technical blog post but here I am, sharing my second part of the "how I use ECS in my games" series (in 2.5y I will write the 3rd part xD): arielcoppes.dev/2026/03/29/d... If you are using ECS, would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for reading!

RE that RT.. it’s wild how steam reviews are still so damn important to getting visibility. If you play and like indie games, the most generous and helpful thing you can do is spend an hour popping positive reviews onto anything you like with <500 or so reviews.

Every year I take some time to write a review about it and my expectations for the next one personally and for my projects. I mention both Cleared Hot and Ship Miner in my review, here it is if you want to read it: arielcoppes.dev/2025/12/26/r...

2025 summary and my expectations for 2026

The end of the year is approaching and I have made a summary of what happened during 2025 and what to expect for 2026.
