elder millenials, it's colonoscopy time. i'm turning 45 this month, and doc was like 'we'll get you yours in the fall'. my roommates have both had theirs this year as well. idk if will have the drink or pills for prep, but ngl, i'm excited for being put under! never have been before xD

The prep isn't as bad as it used to be -- pills, not the drink -- and you'll have one, uh, busy evening and then you go in and get the greatest nap of your life and then eat a glorious meal. Get yourself checked out.

Big tax results out of Missouri tonight: Voters statewide rejected by an huge margin a GOP ballot measure to phase out the income tax. They also renewed a sales tax to keep state parks free. And Kansas City approved a package of $1.7 billion of bonds for infrastracture.

i voted for Kamala in the general after voting Uncommitted in the primary, as did the vast majority of Black Uncommitted voters in Michigan i expect the vast majority of Stevens primary voters will vote for El-Sayed to keep the hardline MAGA scoundrel Mike Rogers out of the senate

The passing dolls need to remember who they once were and that they didnt have to be that non-passing person in this hostile climate. Take a moment to think before you knee-jerk react because it irks you to see trans people choosing safety over pride. You aren't less because they choose safety...

And that is all well and good if you pass as your gender and arent likely to get clocked, its all well and good if you have the time and vigour to run the gauntlet every day. And good on all of you for being that person... but spare a thought for those who arent you... 3/4

Data centers (and detention camps!) — big box buildings on the edge of life —are THE ISSUE because they tangibly encapsulate every other issue—environment, corruption, accountability, social (media) fracturing, and a politics of impunity that drops disaster on locals, then claims to know 🚫 about it

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social · 11h ago

I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

In 1986, contracting HIV meant you were going to die, usually slowly, painfully, and alone. Now it's a chronic illness like hypertension. In 1986, gay and lesbian couples couldn't have their relationships legally recognized and had to adopt elaborate legal workarounds.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

I want the statement "Black Americans are conservative" to absolutely die in a fire. It's a lie from the pits of hell. Black America's record demonstrates that, as a whole, we are the MOST progressive racial/ethnic demographic in the United States and it's not even close.

Amazed lifestyle people haven’t incorporated climate change into their fall coverage. “The perfect fall bikini” “seven skimpy Halloween costumes for when it’s 90 in the shade” “cool salads for another hot Thanksgiving”
