I think we're learning: -consumerism is an overpowering populist force in American society -the populism expresses itself as a base urge for greater consumption; it is not reactive to conditions on the ground -people are ashamed of this and often try to disguise it as other types of politics
Michael Flynn got paid by the Russian government to do anti-American propaganda, got paid by the Turkish government to conspire to break US laws, and now got paid by the US government for helping cover up a hostile anti-American foreign intelligence operation, ensuring perpetrators got away with it.

I find it *deeply* depressing that guys like Max Miller and Ken Paxton remain viable candidates for federal legislative positions. At *worst*, 45% of people who can and do vote in their respective elections, will vote for them.

Okay, a certain amount of this “The Odyssey” stuff really seems to just be renewing well-trod discourse on the tensions and contradictions basically inherent in action and war films.
"Liberal bubble" has only ever meant anywhere where right wing perspectives aren't artificially elevated and forced into everyone's feeds.
I say the bigger risk is people getting scared or overthinking, and not voting at all. Then the GOP doesn't have to rig anything. Make a plan, make sure you vote, and then take to the streets after.
This more than any other particular thing is what has me convinced we’re on the Civil War II track

As an aside, this is also how you know the United States is still a democracy. Autocracies hoard the treasure but spend blood freely. When Trump thinks he can spend a few divisions to salve his ego as Putin has, instead of just some missiles, you will know the republic died some time ago.
Pye Wacket@jackindabox22.bsky.social · 2d agoThe desire to spend treasure over blood has been a hallmark of US military policy since WW2. Certainly this admin is particularly cowardly and hates losses moreso than any other, but the treasure over blood impulse plays to US strengths anyway.
There are 3 things that should be taken as true ahead of the midterms and 2028: 1) the GOP plan to and will make an attempt to rig the elections 2) the planned rigging is poorly thought out and will be very hamfisted 3) it will work unless people are willing to take and hold the streets over it
