Today is African Landing Day — marking the 1619 arrival of the first enslaved Africans at Point Comfort, VA. As that history faces active erasure in classrooms and public life today, we recommit to telling it truthfully, on stage and off. #AfricanLandingDay #BlackHistory
Chauvin was, in fact, the cause of Floyd’s death. He used a technique that MPD and most other agencies have banned, specifically because it causes death. And the crime for which he was convicted is unintentional second-degree murder, which by definition does not require intent to kill.
Is there ever a time now when he's not trying to ignite a race war?
People need to have realistic set of options explained that moving in descending order: (a) possibilities for the House in 2027; (b) possibilities for the House and Senate in 2027; and (c) possibilities for a trifecta in 2029. And, (c) is only possible if the Democrats do (a) and (b) well.
Once again, it would be REALLY useful if people thought of accountability as a multi-pronged effort bc Dems are probably not going to be able to address this unless and until a Dem wins in 2029. And there is plenty people can do before then.
Republican Rep. Tom Barrett running an ad decrying "politicians cozying up with Big Tech billionaires to force data centers on our communities" shows how toxic the politics of this issue have become. But he can't escape voting for data center tax breaks and AI regulatory relief. From me:
MI-07: Tom Barrett Scrambles to Bury His Data Center Past - The American Prospect
The Republican incumbent voted for massive tax breaks for data centers in the Big Beautiful Bill. Now he’s saying Washington shouldn’t decide on the facilities.

still think daily about the time I was at Arby's and the person in front of me asked what the "healthy option" was, and the cashier responded "leaving"
Tales of everyday corruption. Pete Hegseth cancelled the $400,000 contract for making uniforms for the Blue Angels on the grounds that the contract with "The Sewing Box" was DEI since the firm is Black-owned. Instead, he awarded it to a Trump donor for $1,690,000, a 325% price increase!
A gracious concession: “I want to congratulate Abdul El-Sayed on winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He is a doctor, a community health official, a Rhodes Scholar, and a dedicated Michigander. I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election…
This is just rank Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism, based on the bigoted idea that there is something inherently scary about a president with the last name "El-Sayed." It is incumbent on all of us to call it out.
JD Vance: "We don't want the next administration, whoever -- god forbid you're gonna have President El-Sayed in three years ... "
They could always sign up to give comment at a public meeting.
New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
On this day 3 years ago a man sent up a call for aid and his neighbors answered, giving us the greatest video of the decade. Happy Chairteenth to all who celebrate.
Rather absurd framing when you consider the results up and down the ballot, and where expectations were before just the last few weeks.
Progressives didn’t get the big election night they wanted
WASHINGTON (AP) — Donavan McKinney wins Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Michigan's 13th Congressional District.
Imagine being a 12 year-old girl, forced to allow a male sports doctor to "examine" your genitals to determine whether you can play softball. Horrifying.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

This is going to make it very difficult to know which sports we should ban them from.
Some avocados are female in the morning and male in the afternoon, while others are on the opposite schedule. This helps them avoid self-pollination. How do they do it? A @ucdavis.bsky.social study explains. www.ucdavis.edu/food/news/st...
Then why are you confirming his judges?
President Trump is trying to control elections and allow USPS to block millions of Americans from exercising their right to vote. It’s illegal and unconstitutional. Voters choose their leaders, not the other way around. apnews.com/article/trum...

The anti-data center movement is like "I don't want to pay more money for a thing that will not benefit me at all and will actively make my life measurably worse in a bunch of ways" and the pro-data center movement is like "We want it to be illegal for you to not like us."
