Lessons for NZ - apparently datacentres in Ireland draw =23% of the country's power and household power bills have gone up 600 Euros in the last year as a result. Use urged from 5% of national electricity demand in 2015 to 23% in 2025. Forecast to exceed 30%

For the next few months, every single decision about Government spending priorities, in the form of "Rather than spending x on y, the government would rather spend x on z metres of road" where one million dollars is 7.22 metres of road.
The bargain price of $138 million per km. Or one postdoc per metre.
Stephan Kunze has being doing some fantastic service interviewing #vaporwave artists, documenting the scene's often fugitive histories. Here is his latest, a chat with Mr. @disasteradio.bsky.social.
His mixtapes High Fashion Mood Music and LARP of Luxury were among the first vaporwave mixtapes I’ve downloaded some 13 years ago, so I was really happy to be able to speak to Luke Rowell alias @disasteradio.bsky.social.
Because ACT aren't even fake libertarians. They just genuflect in the direction of liberty while seeking to arrogate to themselves more state power So what they won't tell you is that the status quo is that NZ has easier, more accessble, more free hunting than any industrialised nation in the world
What ACT are seeking is actually MORE centralised control and management and bureaucracy between the general public and the wilds Because DOC has so many other jobs and so much else to do running tourist attractions &c that hunting is subject to a kind of idealised libertarian benign neglect
This is an understantable push for a party that has gone from well under 1% to comfortably above 5% on the basis mainly of votes from gun enthusiasts who hate the government (whoever is in it), but it's a bad idea because it amounts to a kind of proprietary stake in one of our few remaining commons
ACT wants hunters in charge of game animals on conservation land, not DOC

I think it would be a great idea to have a cool market where everyone digs out the stacks of CDs and vinyl and art from under the bed and sells them. I’m pretty sure I have Diana Rozz CDs somewhere in a box

"A vote for NZ First is not merely a choice for a domestic political party; it is a direct, deliberate vote to import the most divisive, anti-Indigenous tactics of American Trumpism into the heart of New Zealand politics."
Guess we're gonna get told that 'we shouldn't expect ministers to stay in backpackers' and that 'private sector executives also waste shitloads of money on conspicuous consumption'.
Documents reveal ministers regularly stayed at high-end hotels while urging restraint across government.
If, in the year of our lord 2026, you still believe in banning anonymity on the internet, then you’re a privileged unthinking dunderhead who simply can’t conceive of government being weaponized against you.
And to think, when I pitched this idea to the gbm his first comment was “but how will we pay for it” IT PAYS FOR ITSELF.
I will also provide this service most days of the week, for those in need 😤
