Happy 60th Birthday Revolver, and in a months time Star Trek the original series
We hadn’t finished the previous season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but decided to pick it back up again since the final season has started. Every episode reminds us why we dropped it in the first place. But I suppose we’ll persevere this time.
“Is there anyone who thinks we should start using letters in our counting, and if so how should we start?” Guy who invented Roman numerals: “Well, I for one.”

I was thinking about this show the other day. It got a lot of hype way back when. I wasn’t aware that so many heavy hitters were involved in it.
You know what series I never hear anyone talking about these days? Keitai Sousakan 7. Yeah, it’s about anthopomorphized cell phones from nearly 20 years ago. It’s silly, but there was a great list of directors, too (including Miike Takashi, Oshii Mamoru, and Kaneko Shusuke).

I just had to post this again because I enjoyed it so much.
I had to highlight this tribute to Mamoru Oshii's live action film "Stray Dogs - Keberos Panzer Cops" in the new animated movie "Patlabor EZY - File 1". They literally recreated almost all of the shots from the original 1991 trailer.
Finally ate at Tlaolli in Indianapolis. I loved their corn tortillas!
Okay, white guy taco confession, I guess - I’ve never had a soft corn tortilla that I liked. The flavor of the tortilla itself always ends up overwhelming whatever is inside. Maybe I’ve never had a good one.
We dropped our youngest off at a concert. I don’t remember the artist’s name but I think it was something like this.
Note: Director Yutaka Izubuchi obviously asked Mamoru Oshii for permission, and Oshii approved it so wholeheartedly that the anime even includes a "Trailer approved by Mamoru Oshii" credit for this sequence ;-] More info >> getnews.jp/archives/372...

An interesting article that raises some promising points about Higashino's works potentially being more accessible short story/novel reading material. His "漢字をひらく" approach is a fascinating concept. I'm tempted to check out some of the Detective Galileo short stories while Suspect X is reprinting.
Higashino Keigo wrote using a technique Japanese calls "opening up" kanji: spelling certain words (e.g., ones that might use rare or non-standard kanji) in hiragana so a page reads faster and lighter. It's a big reason his novels are beloved by people learning to read Japanese.

I've been going through the video I have of the Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) I attended 25 years ago. From 7/27/01 to 8/2/01, we were in Kyoto, and starting on 8/3 we were en route to Hiroshima. Here are some images of me from that video, when we were in Kyoto.

I have long wanted to write for the excellent Bay Area publishing collective COYOTE...and they let me write something that honestly no other publication would. All hail independent media!!
Early on @coyotemedia.org made a list of dream bylines we'd LOVE to have on the site and @annaleen.bsky.social was one of the first on it for me. So stoked to see this piece about ~~speculative transit~~ and big dreams for the Bay Area. www.coyotemedia.org/funding-bay-...
Just noticed that @eikeexner.com blocked me in the last few days. I wonder what I said.
Oh wow, the Shinjuku ALTA still felt like it had the wall up just a few days ago It’s just fully gone now Honestly still sad this building with that iconic screen on it was torn down to be replaced, it feels so empty now
I have to go with The Clash, Give 'Em Enough Rope, London Calling
What's the best three album run from a band? (the correct answer is Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure by Rush, but I'm excited to learn second place)
