We're excited to announce a new release of SedonaDB, and this one is a big one! Between native DataFrame APIs in Python and R, a brand new Geography implementation, GPU accelerated joins, and a raster/ND-array foundation, it's hard to know where to start.
Seems like a big deal: "The headline feature of 0.17.0 is a new mechanism that keeps more of your query running inside Comet instead of falling back to Spark: the JVM codegen dispatcher." datafusion.apache.org/blog/output/... h/t @samarchdb.bsky.social

My favorite Safari feature is how it auto-completes the URL you want to go to and then, mere milliseconds later, gets shy and removes the auto-completion, so my Google history is filled with a bunch of insane searches for two- and three-letter prefixes.
thought about this and had to write it, the gist is that it's weird and bad for people to use llms to try and get people to care about them or their projects and the mean take that unfortunately i believe is that most people are cowards when it comes to writing and art macwright.com/2026/06/24/a...

Apparently 14 years ago today I was in the village of Emmonak on the Yukon River taking pictures with a GoPro at 7:30 PM with the sun still high in the sky. This trip by itself was an incredible experience but so has the last 14 years.

You don't 'need therapy', you need to use parquet file format. The arrow package would fix you.
This week we released an ADBC driver for Quack, @duckdb.org’s new native client-server protocol. Now you can query remote DuckDB servers using the same ADBC interface you already use for local DuckDB across 7+ languages—no third-party server extensions required. columnar.tech/blog/quack-a...

Today we launched Ribbit — An Anagram game where you'll find every word — live to everyone! Letters are only linked if they're used in a word. As you find words, the grid prunes itself. By the end, there's just one word left. Then frogs sing to you. Play here: www.puzzmo.com/puzzle/2026-...
I'm considering submitting an application to the "Open Source for the Life Sciences Fund" + would love to hear from the community, specifically folks in life sciences, about any work that you'd like to see on Arrow, & the impact it'd have #rstats #apachearrow #opensource #lifesciences #biotech
