One of the biggest myths in parenting is that the suburbs are a better environment for kids. The city does a better job of encouraging independence and understanding how to navigate a diverse and complex world.

Something I think about a lot is how the US created a system that produces safe, clean, virtually limitless drinking water for every citizen -- a political & engineering miracle for the ages! -- & then went ahead & created a huge, polluting, pointless bottled water industry anyway.
