I always assumed this was because The Cat Returns seems to be more popular in the US than Whisper of the Heart (unfortunately). I've met plenty of people who love The Cat Returns, but had no idea Whisper of the Heart even EXISTED. 😭

Kind of wild to me that Viz published the Cat Returns manga that inspired the Ghibli film but no publisher has seemed interested in licensing the Whisper of the Heart manga that inspired its Ghibli film. It’s from Ribon Shojo magazine so many pubs have licensed from there before too

A lengthy review of FOTNS 2026 on the newsletter because I take Hokuto seriously. I got into the animation to the best of my ability, and overall I think it does the manga well and doesn't deserve the level of flak it's gotten. Admittedly, it leads with its worst aspects.

Finished reading Red River the other day and enjoyed it! You can read the entire series with a @viz.com Viz Manga sub (except, sadly, the bonus epilogue chapters from the final volume). Do recommend, especially with the anime out.
