The entire Bee opinion staff was let go today. I’m sad for my friends and former colleagues. Robin is a fearless and dedicated journalist who gives a shit. She is well-sourced and speaks her truth. Sacramento is better because of her work. These layoffs are a major blow to journalism in California.

I've hung onto my Bee sub through prior layoffs, newsroom gutting and enshittification of its digital product. Epley is a thoughtful, provocative writer, who I often, but certainly not always, agreed with--her presence, along with key others, were why I kept paying. They're gone and now, me too.
