Small joys: * My foot injury is just a hairline fracture that should heal easily * I got inspired to rewrite the ending to my manuscript and my agent hasn’t finished the current version, so I have time to swap the last few chapters * This plant above my desk is now very happy, after a rough start

Sunsets are so pretty, but whatever you do, DON’T look directly at the sun!! Be safe: look at paintings of the sun instead. I am posting these for your personal eye health. You’re welcome!
Language matters! This was a fascinating survey to take, and I learned some new words I’m going to use in the future! Nonbinary folks, please participate!
The 13th annual international Gender Census 2026 is now open until at least 13th August 2026! survey.gendercensus.com It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy. #LGBTQ
Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.

If he would not be a stick whirled and whelmed in the stream, he must be the stream itself, all of it, from its spring to its sinking in the sea.
Broke my foot last night, so it was a good excuse to finish Song of the Huntress. Ummmm rude to have made me CRY SO HARD 😭😭
Think I broke my foot in the mosh pit last night. 🫠
bought candy at the pool for a 13yo and she tried to give me cash. i was like nahh it's nbd, and she goes "girl i have seen your car." 13yo girls remain undefeated. you think you're talking to a child but you're actually talking to whatever gods used to send to punish mortals for their hubris
So you loved the Odyssey, and you're looking for something EPIC? "the sensibilities of an epic poem" @suyidavies.com "a brilliantly layered story of myth and magic, gods and monsters, warriors and lovers" @premeemohamed.com Try Simon Jimenez's THE SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER! geni.us/Spearcuts
Feedback I just got from a beta reader: “Literally on a field trip for work to the movie theatre, watching Toy Story 5 for Free and I’m like hmm want to read your book instead” 🤩
Why is allegory not enough? Why must we beat audiences over the head with the moral of the story? Why did Odysseus spend fifteen minutes explaining to Penelope that he was a Bad Guy who did War Crimes and that’s why he’s a Sad Guy who Got Lost? Sorry babe, couldn’t come home, too busy reckoning.

And your cowriters are your colleagues and community. The people you can help and can help you. Lots of people write, but it’s still a very small world and getting to know people is the best part!
If you're a new writer and wanting to level up your skills, please don't turn to AI as a beta reader. Join a writers group - either locally or online. Swap stories with other new writers. Get into those deep conversations about craft. You'll learn so much more that way.
In more creative + exciting news, I’m on Chapter 35 of 38 of last pass (line editing) Draft 2 of my manuscript. Almost ready to submit to my agent + beta readers. Placeholder title has been Project Misty Folk; still don’t have a perfect name, but I’m leaning MIST OVER RUNEFIRE. 🧝🏼♀️👩🏼🦰🏹🦌 #amwriting
Finished reading THE CHILDREN OF GODS AND FIGHTING MEN by Shauna Lawless. What an incredible title. Intriguing set-up as the first book in the series; I’m curious if we are gearing up for a larger conflict in Book 2 or if we’ll continue to follow the more personal stakes of the two protagonists.

I know, I know, I should've been reading submissions but I made the unwise decision to start this and found that I COULDN'T STOP. Bigolas Dickolas was right.

“Ancient Egyptian princesses actually knew how to use the weapons they were buried with, according to a new study published in Frontiers in Environmental Archaeology” That this study was needed takes the “fake geek girl” meme to levels I never thought possible😭

They are beasts as we are beasts. Men are animals that speak.
if i released my book tracker spreadsheet you'd all be like "oh shit there are really just 5 dudes working in fantasy right now and eighty billion women & nonbinary folks okay"
:deep sigh: I see we are again doing "[romantasy] gives women an access point to fantasy, a traditionally male-heavy genre, both in authorship and fandom," as if there have not been women reading and writing fantasy for literal decades
