Why can’t the police in BC do this? Better yet, ICBC could have annual inspections prior to insurance renewal and all illegal modifications would need to be corrected before being able to renew.

Noise measurement tests were done and the car was found to be in violation. The driver had to continue his journey on foot and the car is not allowed on public infrastructure until the exhaust is properly muffled
Remember the restaurant critic who wrote up reviews about places they never ate at? Me neither? So why are we taking advice or surveying people about bike lanes from people who have never ridden in them.🤷♂️

The road in front of my place is being milled and repaved for the second time since I moved into my home (22 years). Again, I’m willing to bet @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social will add no bike infrastructure to help people using active modes get to the shiny new recreation centre a couple of blocks away.

When did it become OK for delivery drivers to double park wherever & whenever they like, & for automobile drivers to pull illegal U-turns without regard for anyone else around them? Our roads have become a bloody free for all, making them dangerous for all users, especially those outside vehicles.
Do you think we’ll ever see the NS News do more than just report on incidents like this? Is there any hope they might actually dig deeper? Maybe push our council and engineering department for reasons why these preventable tragedies continue to happen and if there is a plan to put a stop to them?

Drivers are constantly speeding, disregarding signals and people in crossings. Some of the worst infrastructure going and I doubt anything will change.

Hey, @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social please read the below and then have your crews go out and recalibrate every intersection with a beg button to favour the pedestrian or cyclist requesting to proceed. Controlled intersections in our city always prioritize the driver which is inequitable.

Wait of 90 sec means a car 1 mile away gets to priority to clear the intersection before I am allowed to cross the road. I am standing roadside breathing particulates
Shame people can’t get there safely on a dedicated, protected network of bike lanes. Unless you live next to one of the MUPs that connect to the Quay, you’re at the mercy of distracted and often belligerent drivers. What happened to the promise of a safe cycling network?

This is really an essential listen. One important takeaway is how the current criminal/enforcement model around road safety focuses on individual bad actors and not the structural violence that is inherent in car culture. It reinforces the idea that we simply need to address the "bad apples." 1/

If someone chooses to live in a smaller home in the inner city in part to avoid a long commute, they generally don’t pressure society to build them a bigger house with more stuff. So if you choose a bigger stuff-filled house in the suburbs, don’t expect society to build you a fast car commute.

I’ll never understand why it takes 30+ minutes to travel, from my place, the 2.5kms along Lonsdale to the quay by bus. I can walk there in about 35 minutes, drive in under 10 or by bike in under 10. Are we ever going to prioritize the movement of transit in this city @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social?
