Fun fact: Effective altruism is just the social version of eugenics.
I’m kind of shocked at how little the campaign against Claudine Gay has been referenced in discussions around Jason Arday news.sky.com/story/harvar...

It's strange and wonderful that while millions of us mourn the loss of Dolly Parton we also experience a feeling of being enriched. That's because she left us an immense gift; she left us her example.
Republicans have spent the last year trying to defund Dolly Parton
We don't need a Dolly biopic Instead, do an antiques roadshow documentary style show, except instead of people bringing in their antiques they bring in their stories of how Dolly Parton helped them
We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.
I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.
The thing about Dolly Parton is she was so free of pretension towards fame and kind of silly that it took awhile growing up before I realized she was also one of the greatest songwriters in American history
The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head 1. "Linguo IS...deaaaaaaad..." 2. "I'm too sad. " 3. "Oh! Son of a bi- !" 4. "I fell on my bottom." 5. "Hold still while I gas you."

Apparently the plane originally departed from Andrews AFB, so definitely US gov't folk onboard. Maybe they're celebrating the anniversary of the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact in some creative surprise-surprise kind of way.
A U.S. Air Force cargo plane flew straight into Moscow this morning and nobody's said why. Flight trackers caught it landing at Vnukovo Airport around 10 a.m. local time. Full story: defence-blog.com/u-s-air-forc...
I'm going to say this every couple months, just cuz why not: I think the fascists are really really itching to try a famine.
“.. The [Iran] war has made so much uncertainty for us as farmers,” said Pam Johnson, a former president of the National Corn Growers Association. “It’s projected that farmers aren’t going to make any money for the next two years.” @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/acb6...
At first, I went "Horray, the UK military is prioritizing cyberwar preparedness". But then reading a bit deeper, it looks like this is using Ukrainian battle tech to protect UK corporate interests from UK citizens. So fuck you, Andy Burnham.

How dare she? Gen X was a golden age of calling in sick.
Courtney Love did actual cool shit, she does not need to post Gen X ‘boomer’ memes on her Instagram story.
Yeah, "democratise" is not a great word to use actually. I used to use it. I don't use it anymore. It's not a great word.
In defence of AI slop: we should embrace open access to creativity, not condemn it Look past the Donald Trump superhero memes and the new software gives us the chance to democratise creative production. No wonder art’s cultural gatekeepers are worried ✍️ Jack Riley https://bit.ly/3SpzFQ4
No one talks about the world's critical shortage of Byzantium.
So what good did the capitulation to the U.S. in terms of the Online Streaming Act accomplish? Any way, here’s the Canadian Media Producers Association response to last night’s trade breakdown:

much as the murder of Brianna Ghey mysteriously stopped being about the climate of transphobia in the UK and became about teen access to social media, the death of Jason Arday is, equally mysteriously, no longer about racism and is becoming about free speech in academia
I’ll go one further. I think “eugenics” might be - and maybe always has been - a euphemism for “anyone who is not specifically me is an animal”.
Every DIY hack: Why spend money at the store when you can make it yourself and spend twice as much money on materials and ten times as much time assembling AND end up with an inferior product?!?
