If we fully fund the renovation, we will never get a dime out of Dundon ever. He's the bully demanding payment to cross the street. And so many people are insisting we need to pay the bully

Q: “Were we prepared for this?" A: “In a wind-driven event, there’s not a fire department in the country that could be ready for an event this size.” But also, there are hundreds of others through mutual aid. Planned preemptively given we knew the high risk.

At this point, the Blazers = the appearance of a bloated tick that wants to feast on more blood. Unless they're deliberately trying to be off-putting? Why in the heck would anyone in Portland want the Blazers here with this kind of predatory, asinine, plain disrespectful messaging from the owner?

Portland Trail Blazers officials told city councilors the city needs to do more than just help fund a renovation of the Moda Center if it wants to assure the Blazers’ long-term presence in Oregon.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

As a union member, fuck off. "But it also contained items that team officials deemed 'nonstarters' — including a proposed $3 million annual fee to make up for property taxes the Blazers won’t pay, and requirements that the team sign a 'labor peace agreement' paving the way for unionized staff."

It is perhaps time to stop entertaining that Tom Dundon, the NBA or Blazers management are negotiating in good faith. Trying to union bust over what's already a sweetheart proposal and claiming you (Paul Allen actually) already did a lot of investment in the team is asinine.

Familiar pattern: "In Missouri, Georgia, Ohio and now Nebraska, Republican men running for high office face significant allegations of domestic violence, stalking, even sexual assault — accusations that once would have derailed any run for office." --NYT 2022

some classic Traditional Patriarchal Values right here. also with Moreno's refusal to call it out, because the whole thing is largely conspiracy to enable the abuse of women, even your own daughter www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/u...

This ban, coupled with the ban on wheels in the wilderness, makes both trail maintenance AND fire fighting something only the most crazy fit 20-something’s can do. Have you tried to use a Pulaski? A long hand saw? After hiking them in 10+ miles the day before? Neither have I but my daughter has

An experienced trail crew leader argues that, in today’s forests, the rigidity of the regulation buries what it’s designed to protect.

i like zoos where they're still figuring out how to handle formerly hosting animal shows. the baltimore aquarium has a funny sign at the dolphin encounter like "the dolphins don't have to do tricks during their feeding time if they don't feel like it but you can watch in case they do them anyway"

I’d like to make it clear for all the people following me what the sheer gravity of the news is. Without this facility we can’t ensure constant communication with spacecraft beyond Earth orbit. If this facility is off-line, the Artemis program cannot send a crew to the Moon.

simply because the Communists are more "revolutionary," But I think that the belief in participatory decisionmaking is the more important value by far. (How much socdems really believe in that, in a representative capitalist democracy, is certainly debatable)

USDOT pulls down more bike lane web info, saying "This is a common sense approach despite the Left's belief that everyone should ride a bike to their shoebox-sized apartment to eat crickets to achieve a phony climate agenda." If you hate bike lanes, you ride with Trump. www.npr.org/2026/07/23/n...

DOT cranks up its campaign to strip bike lane references from federal websites

Transportation officials have removed a growing list of safety materials that mention bike lanes from federal websites. Safety advocates warn that's undermining proven measures for reducing crashes.

MAGA explained in my dog’s behavior: the neighbor cats sunning on the top of the fence or garage roof are somehow bringing evil and pestilence and also impinging on his ability to lay in the sun on the deck. They are using the sun that rightfully belongs to him (and I think us humans whom he loves)
